Jake's obituary
Jake Townsend, age 79, of Mesa, Arizona passed away on Friday, June 30, 2023. Jake was born September 11, 1943 in Sinaloa, Mexico.
Our dad passed away last night peacefully in his sleep. He is now with his wife, Vicki, with his brothers and sister, his parents, and with God.
He was a hard working painting contractor for 45+ years, the breadwinner for our family, and our Mexican blood that gives us the grit we carry with us today. He walked a few miles a day or did something physical, right up until he couldn’t walk last year. He liked going to casino, probably too much for his own good. He says he played semi-pro baseball (someone is going to need to verify that for me – he was a joker too). He did everything with 100% of his focus and energy - a perfectionist in his craft and die hard coach to his kids. He had progressing alzheimer's, but it had not progressed to not knowing who we were – I’m so thankful we did not have to experience what it was like for him to not know who we were.
In this past year since the second stroke that sent him to a wheelchair, dad made sure to say “thank you” to everyone, all the time. He accepted the new normal about 5 months ago and relaxed.
Dad, we know you are resting in peace now and it has been a sweet release for you. Your children and grandchildren will be just fine. We’ll bring them donuts every once and a while for ya. Mom comes to us as butterflies – please don’t come to us as a snake 😊 (his nickname earlier in life was Jake the Snake). We love you dad and we will miss you.
Jake is survived by his son Tom T, his daughter Tiffany G, his son Derek Townsend, and his daughter Deanna Haase; his 9 grandchildren: Shalini T, Sasha T, Samuel T, Serena G, Bowen G, Shayna Townsend, Elliot Townsend, Kevin Haase, and Nathan Haase.
Jake was preceded in death by his wife, Vicki Townsend, his father William Townsend, his mother Guadalupe Townsend, and all of his siblings: Jessie Townsend, Bill Townsend, Vic Townsend, Luke Townsend, Gene Townsend.
