Jadranka Brljak passed away in the evening of November 12, 2021. She had been sick for awhile, but never complained and hardly mentioned it to anyone. To the very end Jadranka was active in our nurse community, she was always searching for ways to help others. Jadranka was an energetic, inspiring and warmhearted person. Her death is a great loss to ESGENA. Jadranka loved to travel, to meet and mingle with her international colleagues from all over the world. We have created this website so that all the people who knew and miss Jadranka can remember her here and share their memories and feelings in this virtual condolence book.

Jadranka Brljak - A tribute in memoriam

It was with deep sorrow that we received the news that Jadranka Brljak passed away after months of serious illness on November 12, 2021.

Born on 13 October 1956, Jadranka was head nurse of the endoscopy department at the University hospital Rebro in Zagreb , Croatia for decades. She was one of the European pioneers of endoscopy nursing ´. She was an ESGENA member from the beginning who never accepted boarders. Difficulties were always a challenge for her.

In the early 2000s Jadranka passed the British endoscopy course in Torbay, Cornwall, United Kingdom. Back to Croatia she started to build up the Croatian education system for endoscopy nurses which finally offers the opportunity of a master degree in Gastroenterology

For more than 20 years, Jadranka worked with many of us closely together during workshops, live demonstrations, during the ESGE-ESGENA-Hands-on training at the UEG Week and the ESGE Days. She was an enthusiastic teacher who always motivated the students with a joke.

Since the early 2000s she represented Croatia in the ESGENA Education working group and enriched the group with her ideas and dedication to her job. 

From 2007-2017 Jadranka served at the ESGENA governing board as councillor, general secretary, vice-president and finally as president.

In 2014 her department became the status of an ESGENA -European training Centre. A lot nurses had the chance to learn at her training centre. 

Jadranka was really a European citizen who enjoyed the new possibilities after the end of the Eastern bloc. She loved to travel in Europe and worldwide and combined this passion with meeting friends and colleagues at different endoscopy events. She supported nurses not only in Croatia and the former Yugoslavian countries, but also in Russia. She gave her input and hard work in establishing educational structures fo r endoscopy nurses in these countries. She was really a hard worker who loved our profession. ESGENA was always able to rely on her loyalty and support.

She was a unique individual with a wonderfully mischievous sense of humour. She always found jokes and warm words which made stressful situations easier. We are saddened by the loss of such a very dear friend and great colleague.
