Poem —
Rikki Holcomb
O.M.G. …there I was.
Humbled in your presence,
Delighted in the humor that was singularly you.
How did you come this way?
In all of this world you were just down the hall.
Even if for 100 years it would not have been enough.
Did they notice the champion in the room?
Did they hear the trail of wisdom, the depth, the storm endured, the honor?
Did they hear the respect and appreciate who gave it?
Did they hear the excitement, the brilliance, and the love?
How lucky am I to walk in your wake.
The imprint of your guiding hand in mine.
Your patient generosity,
Your determination to expect the good and give grace. Again, and again.
How chance is random, how unfair.
Belief be damned, I see you here.
Battling silently while uplifting everyone around.
With Harriet’s strength you moved.
You are real, you are honest, you made time, you mentored.
Nothing and no one too small to matter.
You knew their motivations, you’ve listened. You knew just what to say.
Encourage, reward,... Read more sustain.
Nothing to prove, just show them the way.
Your beacon stands tall, has dimples, and shines bright.
Echoes of the laughs still play, and remind of the joy you gave.
I will strive toward your example, Jackie, every day.
YOU are the warrior, the woman. Phenomenally.
Yes. That is you. Read less
