Jacqueline “Jackie”'s obituary

Jacqueline “Jackie” Jean Sakati, 80, of Potomac Falls, Virginia, passed on Wednesday, December 31, 2025, at Inova Fairfax Hospital, surrounded by loved ones.

Jackie was the heart of her family and a beloved friend to many. She lived fully and passionately, finding joy in gathering people around a table filled with good food, a well-chosen drink, and lively conversation. She loved playing bridge, getting lost in a good book, binge watching a good show and expressing herself through worldly discussions and art. Her warmth, quick wit, and vibrant spirit left a lasting impression on everyone who knew her.

After dedicating 15 years to Loudoun County Public Schools as a social worker, Jackie embraced retirement with enthusiasm, pouring her energy into family, and the simple pleasures of everyday life. Above all else, she was a devoted wife, a loving and proud mother, and a deeply cherished grandmother.

Jackie was born on October 10, 1945, in Clinton, Missouri, to Sgt. Major Bernice Vernon LaHue and Nora Ellen White LaHue. Her childhood was shaped by travel and adventure as her father served in the U.S. Army. She lived in Clinton, Missouri; Fayetteville, North Carolina; and Baumholder, Germany. During her senior year of high school, the family returned stateside to Columbia, Missouri. It was there, at the University of Missouri, that Jackie met her love, a student named Sam from Damascus, Syria and began a marriage that would span 62 years.

Their life was one marked by partnership, and adventure, as travel and international living became a meaningful part of Jackie’s legacy. Over the years, they made homes in Chicago, Illinois; Jeddah, Saudi Arabia; Hudson, New Hampshire; and ultimately settled in Potomac Falls, Virginia. No matter where life took them, Jackie created a welcoming home filled with warmth, laughter, and connections.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Bernice and Nora LaHue; her brother, Thomas William LaHue; and her sisters, Sue Ellen McCubbin and Marie Michelle LaHue.

Jackie is survived by her devoted husband of sixty-two years, Sam Sakati of Potomac Falls, Virginia; her children, Surri Dean Sakati (Kathleen) of Hudson, New Hampshire; Basil Sakati (Elizabeth) of Haymarket, Virginia; and Nura Sakati Mendez (Gerson) of Arlington, Virginia. She also leaves behind five siblings: Diane Signorello (James) of Bowling Green, Kentucky; Charles R. LaHue of Columbia, Missouri; Steven P. LaHue (Ruth) of Columbia, Missouri; Sherri Sweezer (Claude) of Clark, Missouri; and Robert M. LaHue (Cheryl) of Sturgeon, Missouri. Jackie was a proud grandmother to six grandchildren, a loving grandmom to three grand puppies, and a treasured aunt to many nieces and nephews living around the world.

Jackie’s love, laughter, and generous spirit will be deeply missed and forever remembered.

A Celebration of Life service will be held in the coming months. The primary goal right now is to honor her husband’s wish to be present and his children are doing their best to coordinate plans with his care needs in mind.
