Jake's obituary

SFC Jacob W. Meyers, 47, passed away on November 12, 2024, in Mankato, MN. Born on December 1, 1976 to Deb and Bill Meyers. He graduated from Mankato West High School in 1995. After joining the National Guard later that year, Jake then dedicated 20 years of his life to the U.S. Army, serving in multiple conflicts and demonstrating unwavering courage and commitment. Fort Campbell and the 101st Airborne was where he spent most of his career. His military career was marked by numerous decorations, and he retired in 2015 after being wounded in combat. He then spent years doing what he loved most, raising his children in Clarksville, TN. He moved back to Minnesota in early 2023 and enjoyed fishing, hunting, golfing, and Vikings football, but most of all - quality time with his kids and family and friends.

Jake is survived by his three children, Jillian, Jacen, and Owen; his mother, Deb Meyers of Northfield; his brother and sister-in-law, Scott and Alana Meyers of Prior Lake; nephews Peyton, Maclan, and Murphy Meyers; grandmother Phyllis Umhoefer of Mankato; and many Umhoefer aunts, uncles, and cousins; aunt and uncle, Deanna and Gary Watson of Mankato. Also mourning this tremendous loss are his Army comrades, near and far, whose brotherhood surpasses death. As well as his faithful sidekick and service dog, Gus. He was preceded in death by his father, Bill Meyers, and his grandparents, LaVerne and Elaine Meyers and Wayne Umhoefer.

His life will be celebrated on Monday, November 18, at 1 pm at the Prior Lake VFW. A private burial will follow in Mankato, MN.
