Jacob's obituary

Jacob Jon Brooks

Jacob Jon Brooks, a beloved son, brother and friend, passed away on July 21, 2024, at home in Denver, Colorado, at the young age of 22. After over 2 1/2 long years of fighting Stage 4 cancer known as Ewing Sarcoma, Jacob went to be with his Heavenly Father. A service to celebrate Jacob’s life will be held on August 1st, 2024 at 1:00pm at his home church Applewood Baptist, located at 11200 W 32nd Ave Wheat Ridge, CO 80033. Following the service a reception will be held on the lower level of the church. His burial at sea will be held by his immediate family later this year.

Born on November 4th, 2001, he was the cherished son of Steve Brooks, and Patricia (spouse Jim Sweet) and the loving brother of David, Michael (spouse Cait Graham), Austin, Kayla (spouse Levi Cole), Joseph (spouse Shelby), and Emily. He was also adored by many aunts, uncles and cousins. Known for his kind heart, quick wit, and infectious smile, Jacob left a lasting impact on everyone he met. He was deeply involved in his church community, often helping lead the youth group and participating in the college group. He was highly active throughout his entire life, from highschool sports of Track and Wrestling, to the gym and the great outdoors. He was passionate about spending his time outside in God’s creation, spending his days hiking, camping, climbing, fishing, and all things water (affectionately known as a little fish growing up for all his time spent swimming underwater). Jacob would often point out that he was able to have a positive attitude and unwavering patience due to the spirit of Christ living in him. He never stopped fighting for what he believed and for those he loved.

Jacob lived his life as a servant to those around him, consistently putting others' needs above his own. Serving on two separate missions trips with his church, one to Puerto Rico and the other to Peru, he found a passion for tangibly serving people and for those who didn’t know the Lord. Jacob was eager to return to the mission field as he patiently waited on directions from the Lord. He wanted nothing more than for his testimony to be used by the Lord for His Kingdom. Soon enough the Lord called upon Jacob to be a light in a way that no one could miss.

Through two exhausting years of chemo, radiation and scans, he without a doubt fought with unfathomable strength and hope. Every step of the way he held onto the comfort of Jesus and the faith that his testimony would be used by God, for the glory of God. He fought with purpose and through his trials, his own walk with the Lord was strengthened and solidified. He never lost faith as he faced the cancer head on, even in the face of death. He was a pillar of admirable strength and love. Through his strengths and his weaknesses, Jacob always humbly pointed to God. To know Jacob was to know the undeniable love of Christ.

Above all, Jacob often admitted he was far from perfect and said that it was in those moments that the Lord’s strength in him carried him through. All throughout the sufferings that life and the cancer brought, he always claimed that God is good, all the time. Jacob lived his life here on Earth with full hope in his eternal home and after a long fight, the Lord has finished the work He had started in him, his race is won and our Lord has called him home.

Jacob’s resolve was that (John 14:6) “Jesus Christ is the way, the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Him.” For there is no other name under heaven given to mankind by which we can and must be saved to escape the wrath of God to come (Acts 4:12). For God so loved the world that He gave His one and only son, that whoever believes in Him, should not perish but have everlasting life (John 3:16). For the word of God says, “Whoever believes in the Son has eternal life; whoever does not obey the Son shall not see life, but the wrath of God remains on him” (John 3:36). This is God’s truth that Jacob believed which allowed him so much peace. Today is the day to believe!
