She was born in Union City on March 9, 1951, the daughter of the late Lewis and Mary Elizabeth Nielsen Vanderhoff. She graduated from Union City Area High School in the class of 1969. She worked as an Optician in the Erie County region for a number of years. She was a former life member of the First United Methodist Church in Union City.
