Jack's obituary

Jack Alan Swanson of Peoria, IL passed from this world on July 31, 2023. Born December 19, 1952 to Floyd and Elaine (Larson) Swanson, he grew up in Loves Park, IL. He graduated from Harlem High and went on to the University of Illinois. He had a long and productive career at the Illinois Department of Public Health where he was known as the Bugman. He knew more about mosquitoes than they do. He loved music and had an extensive album collection. He was also a die-hard Chicago Cubs fan.

He is survived by his siblings, Kathy (Todd) Ott and his brother Larry Swanson, and nephews Erik (Lana) Peterson and Adam (Danielle) Peterson and their children. He is also survived by his longtime partner of 14 years Heather Whited and her daughter, his bonus daughter, Rhiannon.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a multitude of cats.

Cremation has been accorded. A celebration of life will be held Sunday, September 17 at 1 pm in Peoria’s Detweiler Park at the Dogwood Shelter. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Salvation Army or St. Jude.
