Jack's obituary

Jack Seldon Miller, 91 years old, passed away on February 23, 2020 after a short-term illness. He was born on December 22, 1928 in Blairstown, Missouri to Jack and Blanche Miller, and was very proud of his humble beginnings; his family farmed and operated a small country general store. Jack was a veteran of the Army who served during the Korean conflict while stationed in Germany. Upon his return to the States, Jack joined Rodney Milling Company working full time and attending Washburn University at night. With a Business Administration degree from Washburn in hand, Jack's career began to blossom. Rodney Milling evolved into Seaboard Corporation, a multinational agribusiness organization where Jack assumed increasing responsibilities over his 48-year career with Seaboard. His leadership responsibilities were wide and varied and included leading the construction and operations of significant agribusiness entities across the globe. His role took him all over the world, including 19 countries within the continents of Europe, Africa, and the Americas. Curious and inquisitive about a wide variety of subjects, Jack’s domestic and international experience served him well in both his personal and professional life. He retired from Seaboard Corporation as Vice President of Operations in 1997. Jack was always “in the know” as a prolific reader of the New York Times in addition to multiple other newspaper publications. Jack and his present wife, Vivian enjoyed fine dining and traveling together and loved nothing more than staying closely connected with their beautiful blended family.

Preceded in death by two previous wives, Dorothy and Judy; a daughter, Susan Bowes; brother, Tom Miller; a sister, Maryann Lovell; and his parents, Jack is survived by his wife of 18 years, Vivian; daughter, Lisa Steiner of Maui, HI; son, Neil (Rhys) of Walnut Creek, CA; and a large and loving group of stepchildren, grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

At Jack’s request, no services will be held.
