Jack's obituary
Jack was born in New Albany, IN to Jack and Delores Mathews Sr. on September 8, 1951. He was a graduate of New Albany High School. He joined the Army Reserves shortly after high school.
When his children were young, Jack started his own company, Jack's Air and Hydrolics, where the slogan was , "You crack it, we Jack it." In his later years, Jack worked for industrial maintenance for multiple veneer companies in the Southern Indiana region.
Beyond his work, Jack was an avid bass fisherman and competed in multiple fishing tournaments. He also enjoyed carpentry and being a machinist. His kids often say, "He could take anything apart and put it back together again BETTER." Jack also loved camping alongside a good fishing hole.
Jack is preceded in death by his mother, Dalores Mathews, father, Jack Mathews Sr, step father, Frank, brother, Bruce Mathews, and the mother of his children, Shirley Gray.
Jack is survived by his wife, Gail Mathews (Yates-Foley); son, Joshua Mathews (Janna); daughter, LaShell LaMaster (Corey); grandchildren, Haylee, Cameron, and Damon; and several other family and friends.
The family plans to have a private cremation and celebration of life. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to cover the cost of the memorial service.
