Jack's obituary

Jack Gordon Cheveldayoff passed away peacefully, with his loving daughter at his side, on Feb 13, 2023, at Saskatoon City Hospital.

He was predeceased by Tina and John Cheveldayoff (parents), his loving sister Mercedes Montgomery, and numerous aunts, uncles, and other close relatives and friends.

Dad enjoyed 60 years of marriage to Florence, and lived in Saskatoon for many of those years. He grew up in the Blaine Lake area, and returned to farm there in the 60's, where he retired from in 2001.

My Dad was the kindest, most gentle, honest, loyal and caring man I have ever known. He was, and always will be, not only my Dad, but my best friend.  He was cherished by many, and there will be an informal private Celebration of Life this summer 2023, held by Treena and Brody.

Dad loved his family, and cherished his time spent with every person he knew. I was spoiled to have been chosen by him to adopt. He guided me through life, was my confidante, advisor, and taught me the meaning of unconditional love.

He was a helpful man, who wanted nothing more than his family to be ok. His morals were strong, and his smile was contagious. His love of teaching continued his entire life, and took the time to do so for anyone who needed kind words.

Dad had a passion for sports, especially curling and basketball. He spent many evenings at the curling club over winter. He was President of the Hub City Curling Club in Saskatoon for many years. He took part in organizing the Brier in Saskatoon many moons ago. Bonspiels, practice and hanging out at the rink was a large part of Dad's life.

When he taught high school, he coached basketball, and watched basketball his entire life. The Raptors were the prime discussions between Dad and his Grandson Brody, who he instilled the passion for basketball into. They enjoyed many games on TV together as well.

Summer's were regularly spent at the cottage, where he loved to fish and take others on boat rides. Dad was great at being able to whip someone off a tube he was pulling behind the boat. Those moments were cherished all of his life.

We all traveled together, many places. Dad had a travel bug, and organized many of vacations. His itinerary to a tee. His detailed care of things kept everyone to the minute. Dad's punctuality was impeccable for everything. Never failing to turn the corner in front at home at 5:59pm, for supper at 6:00pm.

Right now, I believe Dad is enjoying being able to listen to Uncle Sam and Auntie Norma play music in heaven, while enjoying some of Baba's classic food, and his sister's ice cream cake.

Feel free to post any pictures or memories with my Dad. They will be greatly cherished.
