Jack's obituary
Jackie Melvin Brott, who preferred just to be known as Jack, was born on October 18, 1935 in Santa Barbara, California. He moved to Colorado before the age of 2 and always considered himself a Coloradoan. At the age of 88 years, he passed away in Lakewood, Colorado on May 07, 2023 from complications after a fall. Jack is survived and lovingly remembered by his wife, Delores Brott.
Jack Brott and Delores Bender were married in the foothills outside of Denver and remained married for 52 years. On their 10th anniversary they renewed their vows (or as Delores put it, “they got married again”).
Jack enjoyed fishing for trout, walleye, bass – basically whatever was in the water at the time. And speaking of fish, Delores remembers, although not so fondly, Jack’s dad making a cooked cod and boiled potatoes meal on a regular basis... Now that’s one breakfast that I don’t mind having missed.
Jack was a hunter of elk and deer and also was interested in auto racing. I am told that he was a Ford man thru and thru.
Jack dearly loved all animals and daily enjoyed walking with his dog Dudley to Rice Auto Repair Shop to hang out with his friends there. Interestingly, two of Jack's dogs will be buried with him.
Jack and Delores played gin rummy every day keeping score by the exchange of one dollar from the loser to the winner. I’m not sure who won the most often but I have been given to understand that Jacks’ pile was usually larger than Delores’ stack of bills.
Jack will be missed by all who knew him, BUT, there is an old Hebrew proverb that says:
Say not in grief he is no more,
But live in thankfulness that he was.
Good men must die, but death cannot kill their names.
As long as we live, they too will live,
For they are now a part of us, as we remember them.
In John 11:25-26. Jesus said: “I am the resurrection and the life. He who believes in me will live, even though he dies; and whoever lives and believes in me will never die.
