Jack William Ahrens, age 80, passed away on October 20, 2025.
Jack is survived by his brother and sister-in-law, two nieces, two grandnieces, and one grandnephew.
Jack graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from San Jose State University and earned an Associate of Arts degree from Columbia Basin College. While attending Columbia Basin College, he was a standout athlete and the leading long-distance runner on the track team.
His passion for athletics began early. Jack attended Chandler High School in Arizona for three years, where as a junior he won the half-mile race and became the Arizona State Champion. During his time there, he lettered in track, football, and basketball. As a senior, Jack attended Shadle Park High School in Washington, where he was a key member of the cross-country team that won the Washington State Championship. He lettered in cross-country, track, and basketball while at Shadle Park.
Jack served honorably in the United States Army and was discharged with the rank of E-5. Following his military service, he built a successful career as a Credit Manager at Atari and other high-technology companies. He later worked for the U.S. Census Bureau during the 2010 Census.
Beyond athletics and career, Jack had a deep passion for family genealogy. He devoted many years to researching his family history, carefully tracing multiple family lines back to the 1700s. He was also an avid numismatist, taking great interest in the study and collection of coins.
Family was important to Jack. He enjoyed attending his nieces’ sporting events throughout their childhood and later attended many collegiate softball games for one of his nieces.
Jack maintained many close friendships throughout his adult life. He made a point of attending friends’ important life events and stayed in touch with them until the end.
Throughout his life, Jack retained a strong love for high school and collegiate sports, often attending games with friends and sharing his lifelong appreciation for athletics.
