it's amazing how quickly a year passes and yet the days go so slow. Cal and I talk about Alex and his amazing mother often. When people talk about "closure" I ask them what that means! We will never close Alex, he is part of the tapestry of our life. The smile, the fun, the intelligence will always be a living thing in our lives. We do hope as time goes by only the happy memories will flood our minds and Alysha will always remember what an amazing mother and person she is.

Alysha, we first met you and Alex when we attended the third grade meet the teacher event at North Hills Prep. Ms. Hansen would be our sons' teacher that year. Nichalaus had just gotten accepted into the school and didn't know many people. We were delighted to meet you and your son Alex. That's the first memory and encounter of you and your precious boy. Since then, I've witnessed the joy he bought you and witnessed the commitment and devotion you have for him. You are an amazing mother, always there for him, doing your best to provide him with the best life and opportunities. You're a hard worker and made many sacrifices for your beautiful boy. Please know that Alex brought joy to many. He provided wonderful companionship, laughter, joy to many and I know he was your absolute love and joy. Please know that we are here for you Alysha, and Alex will live on in our hearts. We love you Alysha and Alex.
Love,
Nicole and family

It was a beautiful day. Cal and I were at Alex's elementary school for an outdoor program. The school was one that immersed the students in Spanish. The kids were dressed in colorful shirts and cute boater hats. They sang and danced and were having a wonderful time. The audience was laughing and clapping. It was a memory maker. Alex was easy to spot. He was all smiles, big eyes and big curls. When I heard about the tragedy of Alex's death, that memory came to mind immediately and I had to struggle to breathe. I realized the promise that was Alex would never be realized, there would be no new memories complete with smiles, big eyes and big curls. Cal and I are heartbroken. Alex is at peace, we fervently hope his devoted Mother, Alysha, also finds peace and holds tight to the memories.

Alysha, I’m so very sorry that you have to be going through this. I was in disbelief and very sad when I heard the news of Alex's passing. He is such a bright thoughtful and caring young man. I want you to know that, he would tell me everyday how much he loved you. My thoughts and prayers are with you and Alex. -Patricia Abbott
