Isabell's obituary

Isabell Roberts, affectionately known as “Buddy” by her beloved granddaughter, passed away peacefully in Indianapolis, Indiana, at the age of 86. Born on June 8, 1938, in Saint Louis, Missouri, she was the cherished daughter of Ira and Isabell Woods.

Isabell was the fifth of six siblings and shared a deep bond with her family. She was preceded in death by her parents; her siblings Ira Woods, Jr., Julia Woods, and Paul Woods; and her beloved daughters, Monica Woods and Vernetta Roberts. She is survived by her son, Jeffery Roberts; her loving granddaughter, Monika Somerville (Alexander Somerville); her great-grand dog, King; and her sister, Barbara Woods.

Isabell attended Lincoln University before beginning her journey as a mother, later relocating to Indianapolis, Indiana. She dedicated her career to serving others as an educator with Planned Parenthood, specializing in community outreach. Passionate about empowering her community, she made a lasting impact through her work.

In her younger years, Isabell was an avid bowler, earning multiple trophies for her skill and love of the game. She also shared her beautiful voice as a member of her church choir, finding joy in music and fellowship.

Known for her firecracker personality and sharp wit, Isabell had a gift for making people laugh with her unforgettable catchphrases and quick humor. She never met a stranger and had a way of leaving a lasting impression on everyone she encountered. She was a mother figure to many beyond her own children—caring for her friends' kids and welcoming others into her heart and home with open arms.

She had an insatiable curiosity about the world, which she nurtured through her love of books, history, and staying informed. She enjoyed watching television, keeping up with current events, and learning something new every day. Isabell took great pride in her children and especially in her only granddaughter, whom she adored.

She had a deep appreciation for antiques and loved visiting thrift shops, always on the hunt for unique treasures. Whether uncovering hidden gems or reminiscing about the past, she found joy in the history and stories behind every piece.

Isabell also loved to travel, finding happiness in new experiences and the excitement of being on the go.

Beyond her many passions, Isabell had a radiant spirit. She had an undeniable love for music, dancing, and joyful moments with loved ones. Her laughter, warmth, and wisdom left an indelible mark on everyone she met.

Isabell’s legacy of love, strength, humor, and kindness will live on in the hearts of those who knew her. She will be deeply missed and forever cherished.
