Isabel's obituary

With a heavy yet joyful heart, we share the news of Isabel Castillo's departure from this world. She peacefully and fearlessly embraced her journey to join Jesus on October 3, 2024, at 8:30 PM, while surrounded by four of her beloved granddaughters. Born on May 1, 1940, our cherished abuelita touched the lives of countless people throughout her extraordinary 84 years.

Isabel was a strong, compassionate, loving, resilient, and faith-filled woman who illuminated the world with her infectious spirit and amazing sense of humor. Her legacy of compassion, empathy, and, above all, LOVE will remain forever etched in the hearts and minds of those fortunate enough to have known her. Mama CoCo, as we nicknamed her, frequently reminded us to "always remember and cherish family, family is forever, live each day one at a time, and count our blessings daily"—lessons we will carry forward with us.

Raising four sons and then four granddaughters as her own, Isabel was the queen of nurturing, wearing the crown for being the absolute best mom and grandma anyone could ask for; no contest! Her ultimate joy? Spending time with her family which would often include whipping up a delicious meal, eating, singing, dancing, laughing, bean burrito and frappe (or should we say, flappie?)runs, playing with her great grandchildren and cheering them on through all their various activities, yelling at the Dallas Cowboys and Texas Longhorns, and serving the Lord together.

Isabel was predeceased by her father, Antonio Garza, mother, Julia Gonzales Garza, brothers, Paul, Edward, and Julian Garza, sister, Gloria Delgado, ex-husband, Ruben Castillo, Sr., son, Ruben Castillo, Jr., and grandsons, James and Paul Castillo. She was also predeceased by her bonus-grandchildren, Sheila Larsen and Chris Gonzales.

She is survived by her sons, Carlos, Joe, and Roger Castillo, daughter-in-law, Hope Castillo, four bonus daughters/granddaughters, Julia Clements, Chanel Meinders, Sarah and Melinda Rucker and an abundance of beloved grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren.

In this heavy moment, let us celebrate and honor Isabel's extraordinary strength and unwavering spirit! We shall cherish her memory by embracing the invaluable lessons left by her legacy: love fiercely because tomorrow is not promised, laugh heartily until joy fills your very core, when you are sad, turn on some music and dance, and hold gratitude in your heart, for each day is a cherished gift from the Lord above and an opportunity to share His light, just as our Mama CoCo did everyday!

A burial service will be held at the Lamesa Memorial Park Cemetery, 1010 County Road 20 in Lamesa, TX. 79331, on Saturday, October 26, 2024 at 11:00 am. (Texas/central time)

A celebration of life will be held at a later date TBD.
