Iris's obituary
Iris was born August 3, 1930 in Manhattan to Hattie and Charlie Rosenswieg (Charlie later changed their last name to Ross). She was raised on the Lower East Side, where she met the love of her life, Philip Carr, a dashing Italian-American who swept her off her feet with his operatic voice. Iris graduated from Long Island University and worked as a preschool teacher before becoming a homemaker after she and Phil married in 1950. Together they built their life first in upstate New York and then in Marin County, California.
Her family was her pride and joy: her daughter Gwen Feiner, son-in-law Gary Osterholt, and Gwen’s children Farron and Jared (with Farrin); her son Barry Carr, daughter-in-law Kathleen and their children Ryan, Jordan (with Sylvie), and Grant. She was a proud great grandmother to Jordan and Sylvie’s daughters June and Beatrice.
Iris was preceded in death by her parents, brother Jerry, husband Phil in 2003, and son Barry just days before her, on January 2, 2021.
She was a staunch supporter of women’s rights and a stalwart Democrat. She was a proud member of congregation Rodef Sholom in Marin, where she served on the board for many years and where she had many wonderful, lifelong friends. She and Phil spent their retirement years in Tucson, Arizona and she later moved to Laguna Niguel, California, near her daughter Gwen.
Iris was never afraid to voice an opinion or offer advice, and we miss getting to know what she thought of current events and staying abreast of the family news. Please honor her by calling your loved ones, voting in the next election, and paying forward an act of generosity like she always did.
