Irene Jane (Goewey) Hodgkins passed away on November 6 2023 in Wichita Falls, Texas. She was born May 23 1932 in Massachusetts as the third child of five children to David Addison Goewey Sr and Viola Dorcas (Oates) Goewey. She married her husband Clarence Austin Hodgkins on January 17 1949 in Champaign, Illinois. They went on to have children who were Irene’s stars in the sky.

Irene and Clarence moved around New Hampshire most of the time they were together, eventually settling in Texas. Her love for animals has been so strong, she’s had two very special cats up until the end named “Only” and “Kitty”. Almost every conversation you held with Irene, she managed to incorporate her cats into what she said and would even be happy to show you all her photos of the cats. Irene was known for her warm loving heart, for her love of animals, for her love of lilacs (her favorite flower) and for the fact she’d do anything to help anyone, especially her children and grandchildren. Irene was the most happy when riding around with her daughter Brenda looking at christmas decorations, especially the lights.

She is survived by her sister Madeline (Goewey) Laflamme of MA, her children Carol (Hodgkins) Williams of NH, Brenda (Hodgkins) Singletary and her husband Bernie of TX, Arlene (Hodgkins) Robbins of NH and Susan (Hodgkins) Comes and her husband Mervin Jr “Skip” of VT. 11 grandchildren Billy Williams of NH, Michael “Mike” Williams and his wife Ausi of NH, Holly Bergeron of MA, Robert “Bob” Bergeron Jr and his partner Nicole Diamond of NH, Crystal (Bergeron) Garrigus of GA, Joshua “Josh” Robbins of NH, Megan (Robbins) Lebel of NH, Nocona “Nicky” Comes and his wife Lindsey of VT, Montana “Tana” Comes of VT, Dakota “Cody” Comes of VT and Natawni “Tawni” Comes of VT. 10 great grandchildren Justice Chase of NH, Brielle Bergeron of NH, Autumn Garrigus of GA, Hannah Garrigus of GA, Aubree Garrigus of GA, Harmony Garrigus of GA, Alana Lebel of NH, Elric Comes of VT, Nikiya Comes of AL and the newest one Holly Comes of NH. 

She was predeceased by her brother Clesson Goewey in 1922, her sister Rita Goewey in 1922, her first daughter Jeanie Hodgkins in 1953, her father David Goewey Sr in 1963, her brother David Goewey Jr in 1970, her sister Ada (Goewey) Barden in 1988, her granddaughter Nikkeya Comes in 1989, her mother Viola (Oates) Goewey in 1991, her sister Miriam Goewey in 1993, her sister Rena (Goewey) Fournier in 1995, her sister Honour (Calkins) Warren Grover in 1998, her brother Edward Goewey Sr in 2003, her son in law Paul Robbins in 2004, her brother Henry Goewey in 2010, her son in law Robert Wolverton in 2010 and her husband Clarence Hodgkins in 2011.
