Ione's obituary

Ione Carrie Wilson, born July 5th, 1948, in Dover-Foxcroft, Maine, passed away on April 21st, 2023 with family by her side at Central Maine Medical Center following a long battle with COPD.

She was the daughter of Marguerite and Stanley Patterson, and married her beloved husband, John Wilson, on Valentine’s Day in 1982. They were together until his passing on December 22nd, 2016. She is also predeceased by brothers Dwinal D Hall and Richard Hall, Lloyd Hall and sister Carolyn Hall, and her daughter Tammy J Wilson who passed away October 16, 1993.

Ione was a tough woman and had a funny sarcastic wit about her. She adopted many cats and dogs and a couple favorite birds were Gonso and Turkey, an African Grey. She was the owner and operator of Carries Animal Shelter from 1995 through the mid-2000s and helped save numerous animals from euthanasia. The animals in her care ranged from cats and dogs to exotic animals, such as Emus, Rheas, Peacocks, a bald Eagle, an entire section of forest for deer, and even a white hybrid wolf named Fang. Most received rehabilitation there. Ione thrived with animals, and this was one of her greatest passions.

In her spare time, she loved spending time with her family, playing cards with friends and bonding with her animals such as cats, birds, chickens and dogs.

Ione is survived by her brothers Rogan "Pat" Patterson, Dennis Patterson, and Fred Hall, and son Scott J Wilson; stepson Scott A Wilson and daughters Lynnette Poulin Wilson, Kathy Patterson-Wisniske & husband Bill Wisniske; grandsons Brandon Wilson, KC Wilson, Tyler Richard-Wilson and Kyle Audet; granddaughters Jeanna DeLong, Tammy Wilson, Jessica Wilson & fiancé Anthony Carlow, Krystal Smith, and Klarissa Audet Quigley along with husband Zac, as well as great-granddaughter Isabella Carlow and Lily Quigley.

Ione will be remembered for her love of animals, and her strong will. She will be deeply missed by her family and friends. May she rest in peace.

In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to your local animal shelter or the American Lung Association. A celebration of life is planning to be held in May 2023. There will be no funeral services per Ione’s request.
