Background
John had a love of all animals and they loved him in return. There was never a stray dog in Greece that didn't follow him and sit with him, knowing he would feed them. They sensed how much he adored them. In New York his many pets throughout the years were treated like kings and queens. Annie the cat came first. John fell in love with her in a China Town restaurant his company was working for in 1984. He asked to take her and they said no because she was older, and a good mouse hunter. They asked him to adopt a younger kitten instead. He snuck off with her anyway and she lived with the Pikramenos family for 20 years. Bringing John "gifts" of birds to his feet when he least expected it.
After that came Alex. Alex travelled with John back and forth from NY to Greece for 15 years. He never left John's side and was loved profusely. Most recently, John adopted Alex Jr. the dog and Matilda the cat. They kept him company and loved him as well. They are now being cared for by family. North Shore Animal League brought much joy to John. When his daughter fostered cats and kittens for North Shore, he would get so excited and come visit them to play with them. He would call for updates and sit with them for hours. He was especially fond of the blind kittens he met. He was impressed at how smart they were and was happy that they were saved and not euthanised as other shelters might do. He also enjoyed visiting North Shore Animal League to sit in the cat habitat rooms. He loved watching all the cats and having them climb on his lap. North Shore Animal League is the perfect place to donate to in John's memory. Contribute to North Shore Animal League America
