Inez's obituary
Inez Violet Jackson 92, passed away on Thursday July 17, 2025 at 5pm leaving behind a legacy of kindness and generosity. Her son-in-law Adam Ferguson never left her side for 21 hours straight and was holding her hand..
Inez was born on a farm in Shackleford, Virginia the youngest daughter of 20 children by John and Maria Jackson. After graduating from King and Queen HS, she followed her elder sister Florence King and brother Profit Jackson and lived in Montclair NJ from 1953-2013.
She was a remarkable woman and much loved, with a heart of gold who selflessly opened her Montclair NJ home to family and friends in need. Later in life when she was 80, she drove as she called them “the seniors “ to their hair and doctor’s appointments. She was always helping someone.
Inez was an avid bowler who traveled with her bowling team across the country for tournaments. She was passionate about “her Yankees”especially Derek Jeter (she had his jersey). She loved dancing and music and her home was considered the party house. It became known as the place to gather when family and friends came to visit.
She instilled her children a great work ethic, she never missed a day of work unless she was hospitalized. She was proud of her ability to be a homeowner while working for ShopRite grocery store. Life wasn’t always fair to Inez but she never complained.
She is survived by her daughter Ramona Harper Ferguson and son Michael Cherry and 6 grandchildren Renae,Michelle,James, Mike, Hiram and Mikayla and 8 great grandchildren. Her daughter in law, Eve Cherry was her loving caregiver for many years. She is survived by her niece Jeanette Holman who lived with her from birth to 18 years old and hundreds of other nieces and nephews and cousins. Among them her niece Shirlene Alice and her husband “CB” Garnett who drove from Virginia to Florida to visit her twice a year when she became ill.
The family also wants to thank Holly Nellana who loved her and cared her in Florida for the last 3 years of life.
