Inez's obituary
In loving memory of our mother, Inez "Dolly" Fraser, who passed away on March 13, 2023. She was loving mother of Shawn (Ron), Roxanne and Andy (Andre). She will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
Smart, beautiful, kind and elegant—Inez Evaughn “Dolly” Fraser was THE prayer warrior and THE matriarch of the McLeod and the Fraser families. Indeed her steadfast faith undergirded every aspect of her life and she served as both an inspiration and an example for friends, family and others that she touched throughout her life.
Inez was born in 1943 to Maude and Henry McLeod in Berbice, Guyana. During her childhood, she attended the All Saints Scott’s School, Victoria High School and University of Guyana. She loved gardening, cooking and jazz music from Billie Holiday. Her keen intellect and her compassionate nature led her to pursue careers at different points in her life as an educator, a Chief Public Relations Officer and a nurse.
Inez was married and later gave birth to three delightful children—Ronald Shawn Fraser, Roxanne Fraser Bovell and Andre (Andy) Fraser. She and her husband later moved to Washington, DC to continue her education, before returning to Guyana. She was a devoted mother and after her marriage ended, she raised her children alone. She was fiercely protective of her children; however, she was also a strict disciplinarian and did not spare the rod. Inez was a very generous soul and even when her family had limited resources, she would always give food to strangers in need.
Inez was a stickler for manners, appropriate grammar and honesty from her children. In addition, if her children misbehaved, she had a look of disapproval that would stop them dead in their tracks. She loved her routines which included fresh bread on Saturday afternoons, church all day on Sundays, and family prayers and Bible reading at night. She was a calm and quiet presence that left a lasting impression on the lives of many.
Inez is survived by her loving children Ronald Shawn Fraser (daughter-in-law Villaire Fraser), Roxanne Fraser-Bovell (son-in-law Roger Bovell), Andre (Andy) Fraser (daughter-in-law Mondi Kumbula-Fraser); her precious grandchildren Chameeka, Xiomara, Tamara, Jordan, Jamal, Sekayi, Kyra and Farai; and her darling great grandchildren Donavan, Isabelle and Skyla. She also is survived by her siblings Alice Brown, Justina McLeod, Bertie McLeod, Carleta Milne and Henry Eastman as well as other relatives and friends.
The funeral service will be held at Full Gospel Assembly Church on March 23rd, 2023. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Touch4Life.
Mommy, you will always be in our hearts and we will never forget you. We love you so much. Rest in peace.
