Inez Elaine Chisum transitioned to Glory on Thursday, December 21, 2023. She was born in Mt. Pleasant, TN on March 25, 1945 to the late William and Betrue (Chavers) Sharpe. Her grandparents were John & Hattie Chavers and Bert & Bessie Sharpe. Elaine was also predeceased by her husband, John Chisum, Sr.; brother, Stanley Sharpe, Sr. (Ellen).; nephew, Mario LaBraun Lyles, as well as a host of aunts and uncles.

Elaine was a graduate of Clarke High School class of 1962. During her elementary years she attended a two-room school in Sandy Hook, TN prior to attending Clarke High School. Elaine attended Tennessee A & I University and was a graduate of the University of Chicago. She relocated to Chicago from Tennessee where she met and married the love of her life, John Chisum, Sr.

Elaine loved life and people. She never met a stranger. She would move from table to table talking to restaurant patrons she never met before. Through the years she made many friends throughout the community. Elaine particularly had a heart for the homeless. She would stop and give them food and other resources that were needed. Elaine and John loved to dance, especially to blues and jazz. After living in Chicago for many years she convinced John to uproot and move to Tennessee to enjoy the southern life. Elaine and John lived on Chavers Farm in Mt. Pleasant, Brentwood, and in Murfreesboro. After a telephone conversation with Elaine she would end by saying "guess what? I love you and there is nothing you can do about it"

Elaine is survived by her sister, Debra Sharpe Lyles (Greg), children-in-love, John Chisum, Jr. (Gaye), Charmine Dade, Michelle Anderson (Herman), & Sherdale Chisum, all of Chicago, IL., nephews, Mykel Lyles (Niki), Stanley Sharpe, Jr. (Maria) of Australia, & Malik Armstrong, devoted aunt, Ella V. Chavers (Warnes). She is also survived by a host of nieces, nephews, friends and cousins. Chavers Funeral Home will manage and assist the family the final arrangements. Services are as follows:

Family Visitation will be held on Friday, December 29, 2023 from 4:00-6:00 PM at First Baptist Church, James M. McCarroll Jr.-Pastor, located at 738 E. Castle St Murfreesboro, TN. 37130.

Funeral Visitation-Services will be held on Saturday, December 30. 2023 at Railroad St. Original Church of God, Connie Baker-Pastor, located at 315 Railroad St. Mt. Pleasant, TN 38474. Visitation will begin at 11:00 AM and Funeral Services will begin at 12:00 PM.

Burial and Final Resting Place will be at Chavers Family Cemetery, located on Chavers Farm Rd. Mt. Pleasant, TN. 38474.
