Ian's obituary

Ian Hollander, 49, of Dearborn, Michigan passed away on August 19th, 2024, unexpectedly and peacefully in his sleep.

Ian was born on June 4, 1975 to Judy and Marty Hollander in Morris County, New Jersey. He spent his childhood in White Meadow Lake with his parents, his brother Lee, and pup Spuds. He graduated from Ramapo College of New Jersey where he met his wife, Angela DeGennaro Hollander. They were married there in front of family and friends on June 21, 2008. They moved to Michigan in 2017 where they resided with their beloved fur family, Patch and the late Bailey. His hobbies included DnD with friends, all manner of gaming and conventions, and cruise travel. Together with Angela, they had an extensive network of friends throughout the country who shared their interests and travel adventures. Like his father, Ian had an insatiable desire to learn new things - especially related to technology. The two of them could talk together for hours to discuss and debate their latest explorations.

A life-long computer enthusiast, Ian worked as a software engineer for Ford Motor Company. His spatial skills and savvy led him to develop an appreciation for mapping. For years, Ian was an active and involved member of the OpenStreetMapping community where he found purpose mapping remote or natural disaster ridden areas to support recovery efforts.

Ian was a passionate and avid member and advocate of the autism community. He took great pride in helping others - from loved ones to complete strangers - navigate the ups and downs of thriving on the spectrum.

Ian was predeceased by his mother, Judy Weiss Hollander - a talented artist, dedicated educator, and fearless advocate. He is survived by his wife Angela of Michigan; father Marty Hollander and his companion Sandy Siegal of Sarasota, Florida; brother Lee Hollander, Lee’s wife Tammie Nahra, and their children Madeline and Max of Ann Arbor, Michigan; David DeGennaro and his wife Sarah, and their children Nate and Micah of Newton, New Jersey; and Sean DeGennaro and his husband Felix Foucher of Belleville, Michigan. Ian is mourned by a wealth of aunts, uncles, cousins, friends and loved ones who will carry his memory in their hearts. A celebration of life will be held at a time and place to be announced.
