Ian Ross Davidson
January 28, 1934 - November 27, 2018

Ian Ross Davidson, born in Montreal and long-time resident of Bancroft, passed peacefully on Tuesday, November 27 at Grey Gables Long Term Care in Markdale, Ontario at the age of 84. Caring husband of the late Ellen for 56 years. Father of Heather Davidson (Dale Palmer), Craig Davidson (Patricia), Christopher Davidson, Catherine Rivera (Erick), Gillian Metcalfe (John) and Meredith Skogstad (Matt). Loved Grandfather of Timothy (Kathleen), Bryanna (Brayden), Nathaniel, Caitlyn, Laura, Julia, Noelle (Lucas), Elizabeth, Sonora, Rebecca, Cailey, Elisabeth, Lauren, Alex, Ian Jr, Ella, Violet, Gemma, Loïc, Piper, Meara and Stellan. Great-grandfather of Aubrey. Brother of Betty Keller (Elmo). Predeceased by his brother Jim (Susanne), sister Eunice Walker (LeRoy) and parents James and Violet Davidson.

Ian will be remembered fondly by extended family, friends and also by the many students who spent time in his classroom throughout his 30 year teaching career. Ian was well known among the students at North Hastings High School for his many stories. He is also remembered for his kindness.



Ian was a tremendous supporter of the Canadian Cadet Organization. 

A former member of the Hastings and Prince Edward Regiment, he helped form the sea cadet corps in Bancroft where he would serve three terms as Commanding Officer. Ian also served at various cadet summer training establishments including as Commanding Officer of Camp Frontenac. Additionally, Ian oversaw regional training in the cadet program, attaining the rank of Commander.

Ian was awarded the Canadian Forces Decoration, the Queen’s Golden Jubilee Medal, and was a Paul Harris Fellow.

Public viewing will take place at Nisbett Funeral Home, 600 Monaghan Road South, Peterborough on Friday, November 30th from noon until 2:30. Burial will take place immediately following at Rosemount Memorial Gardens in Peterborough, Ontario. A Celebration of Ian's Life will be held at a later date in Bancroft.
