Hunter's obituary
With hearts full of sorrow and love, we announce the passing of Hunter Blaine Olson. At just 20 years old, Hunter tragically passed away on May 18, 2025, in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico.
Born on December 10, 2004, in Missoula, Montana, Hunter was the beloved son of Blaine and Jess Olson. He grew up in the close-knit community of Lolo, where he attended Lolo Elementary and Middle School, later graduating with honors from Florence-Carlton High School. A talented and driven student-athlete, Hunter played varsity football and golf and had a relentless commitment to excellence, both on and off the field.
Hunter was pursuing his personal training certification at the time of his passing, inspired by his passion for health, strength, and encouraging others to become their best selves. Professionally, he worked as a Soil Enrichment Specialist at Cenex Harvest States. In his free time, he was taking flying lessons and pursuing his pilot’s license.
But those are just the basics of Hunter. He was so much more than a paragraph on a page. To know Hunter was to know someone who truly lived. His interests were as wide as they were deep—he was an avid reader of philosophy and books on self-improvement. He found joy in golf, surfing, skydiving, hunting, fishing, cooking, music, and meaningful conversations. He expressed his passion for art with the tattoos he collected on his body, not just here at home but wherever he traveled. He always made time for his family and friends, from board game nights to stopping to have coffee with his grandparents. He adored his dog Maverick, named after the character in one of his favorite movies, Surf’s Up. He loved his role as a big brother and best friend to his little bro, Hayden, and acted in that role to many of the younger people in his life. He loved being a Montana boy, but he was also infatuated with travel, to see the world and experience different cultures. He was constantly planning his next trip. Hunter was always up for an adventure, whether it was heading off to a concert (especially Zach Bryan) or just to the lake for the day. It was hard to catch him standing still. He was deeply spiritual, a devoted follower of Christ, and always searching for life’s deeper truths. His relationship with God was at the very core of who he was and how he viewed the world.
Those who knew Hunter remember him as passionate, loving, vibrant, and kind, with a spirit that was larger than life. He was honest, humble, daring, loyal, and had a heart big enough to accept and lift others wherever they were in life. One of his favorite quotes was “Thank you for the things I am not wise enough to have gratitude for.” That wisdom, tucked into his youthful years, defined his grace and generosity. He may have been called home way too soon, but in his 20 years on this earth, he lived, he loved, and he leaves a legacy that will radiate on in those who loved him.
Hunter is survived by his loving parents, Blaine and Jess Olson, and his brother, Hayden Olson of Lolo, Montana. He is also survived by his grandparents: Robert and Connie Olson of Lolo; Janet and Mike Dean of Missoula, Montana. Aunts and Uncles: Amber and Matthew Bell of Helena; Andrea Dean of Corpus Christi, Texas; Becca and Jon Meek of Spokane, Washington; cousins: Madison Bell, Gabe Meek, Bethany Goris, Michaela Meek, and many other beloved family members and friends.
A celebration of Hunter’s extraordinary life will be held on Saturday, May 31st, 2025, at 1:00 p.m. at Florence-Carlton High School, 5602 Old Highway 93, Florence, Montana. In lieu of flowers, the family asks you to perform a random act of kindness or donate to your favorite charity in Hunter’s memory.
The Olson family extends heartfelt thanks to the staff of Villa Del Palmar Resort, especially Carlos, the hotel manager, security team, and the Funerarias Rivera of Cabo San Lucas for their compassion and support during this difficult time.
