Meeting Hugh will be a cherished highlight of my life. My great uncle, Eddie, was deeply in love with Hugh's mother and planned to marry her but was tragically killed in a flight accident during the war. I grew up hearing pieces of the story, but having never met him, I but did not dive in to it until my second child, Eddie, was born. I found his old photo albums and kept seeing a precious little boy in many of the photos. My mom said that his name was Hugh but we lost touch many years before. I made it my mission to track Hugh down and finally met him ( and Margaret!) 2 years ago with baby Eddie. The way this story came full circle makes me cry every time, with baby Eddie looking into his eyes like he knew him. Hugh sent me many of uncle Eddie's personal belongings he had kept throughout the years, including his flight jacket. The stories he shared with me of the love between his mother and my great uncle were beautiful and a piece of history. Thank you, Hugh, for helping to close this story, of the things that could have been, but were not forgotten.

I always knew Hugh was a musician from his sons. Now I know he was much much more. An amazing inspiring life. This a loss for everyone.

My condolences to Hugh's family. Hugh was my uncle. By the time I was old enough to remember him and have a relationship with him he had left for college. Brief visits occurred over the years and I was saddened that I didn’t know him very well or get to spend much time with my cousins. Speed ahead to recent years and my husband and I traveled to Cary for visits. Best visit ever was on his 80th birthday party! Hugh knew my sister, Diane, was attending but we kept our (me and Nick) arrival a secret. I’ll always remember the wonderfully surprised look on his face when I popped up in the car to greet him. Time flies and years get blurred, that might have been the last visit I had with him. So proud of my Uncle Hugh and the contributions he made during his lifetime of love for music. So many people will miss him, especially Margaret and his sons. Condolences to all.

As he once told my husband, Frank, about aging "Well, at this point, all we can do it enjoy what's around us, and have hope." I'll always remember that.

I am so sorry to hear of the passing of Hugh Partridge. I had the distinct pleasure to serve as director of the Triangle Youth Symphony (TYS) from 1997-2010. He was a mentor and an encourager the entire time I served. There were numerous times of outstanding orchestral music made and experienced by the student performer and myself. I can never say all the words expressing my gratitude to Hugh. He gave me the opportunity to experience a lifetime of musical moments as part of my 40 year career as a music educator.
My appreciation to Marta Partridge for being my strings and repertoire doctor and to Margaret Partridge for all the behind the scenes work that built and kept the foundation strong that continues to blossom today and for many years to come.
Hugh Partridge enjoy your new life and know you certainly touched the lives of many people sharing your talents and acquired skills with mankind wherever you were. RIP Hugh, it’s your time to listen to the music you love.
