Howard "Skip"'s obituary
Skip married the love of his life, Beth Lugg, on September 8, 1973. Together, they enjoyed countless adventures exploring the great United States – as a pair and alongside dear friends. While living in Fredonia, Skip was heavily involved in the local community, first as a young boy working in his grandfather’s grocery and general store and then later as a Deputy Fire Chief.
Old Home Week was the biggest event of the year – and Skip wouldn’t miss it for anything.
Out of college, Skip started working for Arco which would later become Sunoco and built a tremendous career with the organization as it evolved, over a span of 45+ years. His colleagues, turned friends, have shared how much he meant to them over the decades and how grateful they were for his partnership and more so their friendship.
Though a job opportunity brought Skip and his family to just outside of Philadelphia, PA Skip’s home and true north remained in Western Pennsylvania. A trip to Heinz field to cheer on the Steelers with a stop at Rico’s in Pittsburgh and of course a few strolls down memory lane with friends and family in Fredonia and Greenville were time-tested traditions that Skip’s family intends to carry on. Other favorite stops were to the bluffs and small towns of Machiasport, Maine and to the Pacific Northwest to visit his son and son’s family – and all of the meandering road-trips and stops in between.
In his younger years, Skip was a competitive water skier. Later in life he still enjoyed days spent on the water. Some of Skip and Beth’s favorite memories were spent boating and just relaxing in Rock Hall, MD. Skip was happiest when surrounded by his family, especially his grandsons who dubbed Skip his favorite title of all – Pops. Skip’s family was the center of his life.
He is survived by his wife, Beth A. (Lugg) Boyer; a son, Mitchell O. Boyer and his wife Ksenia, a sister, Mary Deanne Sprecher and her husband, Dave; a brother, Robert Boyer and his wife, Cathy; nephews Jason Sprecher and Danny Sprecher; nephews Brad Boyer, Ryan Boyer, and Nathan Boyer and his wife and two grandsons, Wesley O. and Griffin I. Boyer.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Cheryl Boyer.
Graveside services will be held on [date] at the Millbank Cemetery, Fredonia where he will be laid to rest near his parents and alongside other family members.
Arrangements have been entrusted to the Robert L. Snyder Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 169 Second Street, Fredonia, PA.
