$1,400.00 was contributed to Dementia Research and KU Support by 7 people in memory of Howard.
This memorial fundraising campaign is now closed.
Background
This memorial fund will be used towards two causes that were important to Howard.
Howard passed away from a rare early onset dementia, believed to be Frontotemporal Dementia (FTD). Half of this fund will go towards dementia support (including research into treatments and caregiver support) either through the Association for Frontotemporal Degeneration (AFTD) or the Alzheimer's Association. Howard and his family participated in various programs through the Alzheimer's Association and it would be very meaningful to be able to help other families as well.
The other half will go towards supporting the University of Kansas (KU), either through academic support or supporting a facilities upgrade. Howard was very proud of graduating with his Chemical Engineering degree from KU. He lived in Lawrence, KS (home of KU) for about 20 years, attending a variety of KU events during that time, and his daughter also graduated there. Howard loved wearing his KU gear and was always wearing either a KU shirt or a KU jacket in his last years. The family will support KU to continue having an impact on others like it did for Howard.
