Kirk was my doctoral student at Penn state. He and Linda lived in park forest village pretty close to us and we enjoyed walking our dogs together . We also played lots of racketball together in PSU old gym. I never thought of him as a student but as a colleague.
We wrote 7 articles as a team and one book. Kirk was a real joy to work with because of his Kansas sense of humor and his passion for hard work. His most famous article, published in Administrative Science Quarterly , can to be after he found a mistake in a classic work. We collected data and when we submitted it for review, the editor call him just to make sure we wanted to submit the piece for review. The original author admitted the mistake snd Kirk’s paper was accepted.
Some years later, he called and said he accepted a position at Frog University (TCU) and let’s get together. Gail and I drive over and had a great dinner at Joe T Garcia’s in Fort Worth. Over the years we ate together many times and shared numerous PSU stories .
I saw him in 2021 at the Belmont for lunch. He was wearing his old PSU sweatshirt and Nittany Lion pants.
Kirk was a real gentleman and scholar. Hex will be greatly missed
