I was incredibly saddened to learn in January that Horia is no longer with us. I am comforted by the good memories I have with him, a few of which I'll share below. Without Horia, I would have never met my fiancé, Jesse. Horia hired both of us at J. Crew a over decade ago, and when I eagerly accepted the job offer, I never knew that I would gain such a wonderful friendship in Horia and find my future husband! 

Here are a few of the memories I have with Horia that I will continue to hold near and dear:

Decorating his Christmas tree these past few years on the Sunday after Thanksgiving… and putting up the “peeeuuuun ceeeeuns!”

His amazing green thumb, and the tomatoes he grew. They were like candy!

His epic charcuterie boards and the countless glasses of white wine we shared on summer evenings on his balcony.

Playing Mario Cart.. and losing to Horia and Jesse every time. 

I will also forever miss the voicemails he left that were simply, “BEEEEEERF!” 

We miss our friend (my berf/byorf!) greatly.

Seeing all these photos of Horia brings tears to my eyes. I’m going to miss our long phone conversations. We talked about so many real and deep topics. He was such a good listener and a kind person. It seems he would do anything for those he was close to. He had so much love to give and he deserved to feel that in return.

My heart goes out to his family and friends, for this is a tremendous loss. It almost doesn’t seem real, and it’s certainly not fair that someone with such a huge, kind heart would be gone so soon. 

Horia, I hope you know how much you meant to so many people. All of us here love you.
