Horace's obituary

Horace D. Kinlaw went home to heaven on November 19th 2021 at age 90.  The hallmarks of Horace's life were his love of family; humor; generosity; and deep faith in Jesus. A life-long jokester and storyteller, Horace's easy-going and humble nature made him a constant source of joy and laugher for his family and friends throughout his life. 

Horace was born to Marshall and Myrtle Kinlaw on November 14th in Hope Mills, NC and was the youngest of 6 children. Horace was a loving husband to Betty Vivian Kinlaw for 65 years, and a caretaker for her during her final years. Horace and Betty met at Hope Mills High School and married in 1950. They went on to have 3 children.

Horace was a successful businessman working with Swift Co. for over 30 years before retiring and moving to Asheville, NC in 1980 where he founded and operated Circle 8 Foods Inc. and was awarded small businessman of the year. 

 In addition to being a dedicated family man and business owner, Horace served in the National Guard and maintained a deep appreciation and patriotism for his country and his freedom. 

Horace was an avid golfer and  also enjoyed watching and cheering for his favorite sport teams including the Atlanta Braves; Carolina Panthers; and Carolina Tar Heels.

Horace held an unwavering faith in God, and was the oldest member of Biltmore Church East, where he attended church weekly. He often shared his faith in simple, yet impactful, ways throughout his daily life. 

Left to cherish his wonderful memories, and follow in the footsteps of his legacy are: son, Kenneth Kinlaw (Anne); son, Michael Kinlaw (Beth); daughter Terri Burkett; grandson, Thomas Kinlaw, grandson, Kevin Kinlaw (Amy); granddaughter, Hayley Kinlaw (Dave); grandson, Richard Robinson; granddaughter, Heather O'Hearn (Thom); granddaughter, Caroline Skinner (Matthew); grandson, Michael Kinlaw (Anna); granddaughter, Rebekah Calloway (Jacob); grandson Hunter Kinlaw; and 11 great-grand children.  

A graveside burial service  will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, November 28, 2021, at Lafayette Memorial Park, 2301 Ramsey Street Fayetteville, NC 28301.
