Hope's obituary

Generosity. Friendship. Celebration. These are a few of the ways Hope Hamilton left the world a better place.  Caroline “Hope” (Almy) Hamilton, also known as “Sissy” to long-time friends and family, passed away peacefully at the age of 88 to be with her Lord and Savior on April, 1, 2025 at her home in Marble Falls, Texas with family at her side. Hope loved surprises and tricks, making it fitting that her time on earth ended on April Fool’s Day.  Hope had a life packed with adventure, traveling to dozens of countries oversees with family and grandchildren. Hope was always ready to host or attend a party, whether cheering on her Texas Longhorns, attending weddings, pitching horseshoes at backyard barbecues on Chateau Lane in Colorado, or celebrating holidays with family. Hope was never afraid to step out of her comfort zone to tackle new challenges, such as spending a semester in Oaxaca, Mexico living with the locals in a Spanish immersion class.   Or, after becoming an empty-nester, finishing her college degree at the age of 60 from Fort Lewis College in Durango, Colorado.  Hope grew up a cowgirl, often barrel racing, in Fort Worth, Texas.  Her parents, Earl Vaughn and Minnie Ruth Almy, brother Earl “Buddy” Almy and sister Helen Bonis, all enjoyed time on the edge of town at their farm in Fort Worth, with Hope riding her favorite horse to school.  Hope would go on to attend the University of Texas in Austin where she met her late husband, Anthony “Tony” Hamilton. After getting married and living in Houston for six years, they raised their four children, Vaughn (wife Carol) Hamilton, Marc (wife Debbie) Hamilton, Vance (wife Kerri) Hamilton and Adair Watson (husband Brad Watson), in Bay City, Texas. As many knew her, Hope was a life-long athlete, playing in many tennis tournaments and always an avid golfer. She not only played, but taught tennis for many years, both in Bay City and one Summer at Camp Cimarroncita in New Mexico.  Hope loved reading and studying her Bible, often speaking at women’s events and hosting Bible studies at her house.  She lived out a Christian life by showing grace to those who others might pass by.  Hope was an appropriate name for her.  She was one of the strongest encouragers a mother and friend could have. She was always optimistic and hopeful – even when the Longhorns were down in the 4th quarter. And she imparted hope with whoever she met.  She never met a stranger – she could have coined that term.  Her charisma made her instantaneously best friends with a waitress in Durango or a taxi driver in Paris or an older fella at her favorite hangouts – Double Horn Brewing in Marble Falls and Olde Tymers in Durango.  Hope left behind a wonderful legacy and beautiful memories for her friends, children, eight grandchildren (Dr. Selina Sturman, Kate Hamilton, Caroline Hamilton, Zack Hamilton, Kaitlyn Gibbs, Chottie Hamilton, Chloe Hamilton, Clara Hamilton) and three great-grandchildren (Luke Sturman, Anna Sturman, Hallie Beth Gibbs).  As Hope was declining over the years, she’d often say, “I just want to live until this next great-grandchild is born.”  Hope not only left a family and world of “best friends” behind, but her backyard birds and her “fifth child,” her dog Guapo who she loved so well.  Hope left a life of legacy and a life of impact on the ones she knew and loved.   Most of all, she gave us Hope.

Hope enjoyed giving to the Phoenix Center near Marble Falls, Tx, who are dedicated to providing innovative mental healthcare to children and teens facing an unprecedented crisis. She found it to be an excellent non-profit and a very meaningful cause.  Any donations to the Phoenix Center are greatly appreciated.  Please visit www.phoenixtx.org and click on Ways to Give.
