Nay's obituary
On May 18, 2022 my grandma was called home to God to her final resting place in heaven at the age of 92. She was a beloved mother, grandmother and great-grandmother to 5 children, 17 grandchildren, and 5 great-grandchildren. My grandma lived a full life from surviving the Vietnam War, living as a refugee, to arriving in the states to live the American Dream. Her strong Catholic faith gave her the power and strength to guide her through hardships. Throughout her 92 years of life, she had one lifelong goal - to always protect and provide for her family - and she did so dutifully until her last day.
My grandma was a woman full of life and vigor. She enjoyed traveling, having visited France, Italy, Jerusalem, Mexico, Hawaii and other parts of the states. She also loved watching movies and listening to music. Her favorite movies were Nacho Libre, shark movies, any movies with animals, and dramatic soap operas. In her 80s, she once stayed up past 1 o’clock in the morning to indulge in a Korean drama show! She also watched Paris by Night so often she memorized all the artists names and skits. She loved spending time with family, and any day with a family meal was a day where the food always tasted better. Our conversations with her often consisted of war stories, memories of Vietnam, ghostly encounters, and family gossip. She was always worried about her grandchildren finding a love of their own and too often meddled in the areas of love and matchmaking. “What about that friend of yours?” she would always ask, as her grandchildren thought “Oh no, here we go again.” She always had good intentions to look after our futures.
Although not much of a gambler, my grandma enjoyed playing Bầu cua tôm cá, Blackjack, the slots in Vegas, and was religious to buying a lottery ticket every week. Everyday she prayed to win the lotto! She enjoyed eating at buffets and trying new foods. She hated sour stuff but loved sweets. We all got our sweet tooth from her! She was silly, serious, demanding, and a woman full of love. She is survived through our family, our cherished memories of her, and will live on in our hearts. She will be forever loved and missed.
