Himangshu's obituary
Himangshu R. Bhattacharjee (80) of Randolph, NJ passed away 1/20/23 in the presence of his dearly beloved wife of 50 years Kalpana Bhattacharjee in Delhi, India; his homeland which he loved and made his final journey. He will be missed by his wife Kalpana, sons Neel (Merry), Sandip (Rebecca Brooks), granddaughters Naiya and Norah, numerous siblings including close surviving sister Arti Roychoudhary and her son Subrat (Ruma), and children Aishi and Aniket. Dr. Bhattacharjee had an expansive family both in the US and abroad made up of many siblings, nieces, nephews, and other loved ones.
Dr. Bhattacharjee was an accomplished chemist with his path-breaking work in laser physics, physical organic chemistry, and high performing chemicals. He came to this country in 1968 to complete his Ph.D. at Wayne State in 1973 and later held posts at University of Notre Dame, University of New Brunswick, University of Toronto, and UC-Santa Cruz. He went on to high level research positions at Allied Signal, Texwipe Corporation, and the 9/11 WTC commissioned study. He was the 2001 recipient of the Hind Rattan Award and also the 2003 recipient of India’s highly coveted Nav Rattan Award from the Congress of Non-Resident Indians for his outstanding achievements and declared the 'Pride of India' by former President of India, Shri K.R. Narayanan. Dr. Bhattacharjee enjoyed soccer, stamp collecting, and taking daily walks. Himangshu lived life with zest and his generosity, sense of humor, and loving manner will be greatly missed by his loved ones.
A service will be held on Friday 2/3 in his memory to be celebrated by his loved ones. A donation in Himangshu Bhattacharjee's memory may be made to the American Heart Association.
