Hilda's obituary

Hilda Pruitt Reed passed away in the early hours of June 11, 2016 in Payson, Utah after a brief illness. She was 90 years old.

Born in Lavonia, Georgia to Willie L. Crawford and George H. Pruitt, she was raised in Westminster, South Carolina. She joined the Naval Cadet Nursing Program during WW2 and became a Registered Nurse but the war ended before she received a commission. She met and married R.D. "Don" Reed in Portsmouth, Virginia and they raised their family in Southern California.

Hilda loved to travel. She enjoyed card games and puzzles with family and friends and to take short trips to Las Vegas. She enjoied reading Zane Grey and Tony Hillerman novels and traveling to the places described in the books. She was a Registered Nurse for more than 50 years in both patient care and administration and by her own count she helped deliver tens of thousands of babies. She was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. And most of all, she loved her family and was beloved by them.

Hilda was preceded in death by her parents; brothers Jimmy and George A. Pruitt; and husband Ralph Donald Reed. She is survived by her three sons: Dan (Deann) Reed of Wildwood, MO; Joel Reed of Boise, ID; and David Reed of Spanish Fork, UT; her sister, Vera Johnson of Libertyville, IL; five grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, many nieces, nephews and friends.

She will be remembered for her quick wit, her wry sense of humor, and her loving kindness toward all.
