Liebe Hermi!

Deine Steffi

Our deepest condolences on the passing of Hermi. Rainer and I visited Hermi und Bruno many many years ago and had a wonderful time getting to know each other, spending time with her and other family members at their beautiful family home.  While Rainer knew Hermi from previous visits, I later also met up with her through Facebook and emails and got to know her better. We remember her fondly. ❤️

Hermine and I met in a Tai Chi class at the Seniors Center. Not sure of the year, but it was in this Century. We felt like kindred spirits, because we shared a love for the arts. She, being an amazing sculptor and painter, impressed me so much I was hooked. We became friends for life. We spend many hours at her favourite grocery store, Denninger’s, but only liked Starbucks coffee.lol. We lost our spouses not long after we met. When Hermine told me about her being ill I was devastated, but I respected her wishes of just staying in touch with phone calls.

I will always remember the moments we shared…rest in peace Hermine.

I have so many wonderful memories of spending time with Hermina and our family. Her house in Burlington was one of my favourite places to be growing up. The art, the lounge chair, the grassy hill, and of course the bamboo garden where I ran around having bamboo stick fights with my cousins.

I remember every year getting a card from her on my birthday, she would include a dollar for every year (up until I was 20, I think) but the best part was the cards themselves. They each had a piece of her art on the cover.

I'm so happy to have pieces of her scattered throughout my life; a beautiful painting hung in our living room, a plant cut from one in her home in Burlington, the creature in my parents backyard.

I wish she could have come to my wedding, I know she would have loved it, but I'm grateful she was able to meet Michelle when we came to visit late last year.

Hermina wasn't just my great aunt, she was a great aunt (sorry, I had to).

Love,

Aldis

I extend my deepest condolences to Hermine's  family.  Tante Hermi touched many lives.  I will always remember her as a wonderful friend to my mother, Leonore, supporting her through challenging times and being there to celebrate her successes.  When I reflect on my own relationship with  Tante Hermi, a significant number of memories come to mind  beginning from the time we were children .  I saw her as a caring, generous and creative person who was willing to explore a new direction with that legendary sparkle in her eye.   A life long learner, Tante Hermi's  "stick with it" attitude led to her to achieve a Bachelor's degree.  She was always eager to share her knowledge, teaching us to how to sew by hand and how to make wonderful things  out of a lump of clay.   Most significant, of course, was her dedication to artistic creation in a variety of media.   I am particularly fond of a painting in which she incorporated some of Bruno's math notes.  Finally, I will always remember the meals we shared.  Tante Hermi hosted THE best dinners.  Her plum knoedel are legendary.

Tante Hermi was so proud of her family and  I know that you will each cherish  memories of the times you shared.   She will be missed.

I have such wonderful memories of my much loved Auntie and I will miss her voice and putting the world to rights on the 'phone.

Velta Andrew Eric and Ian I feel deeply for you at this time.

My mother who was 17 years her senior, always referred to her as "my little sis" and I like to think they (and many others) can meet again in another place.

I want to extend my deepest condolences to Velta, Andrew, Ian and Eric on the loss of their mother and grandmother. Hermine touched all our lives and I only wish I could have known her in her younger years. She was extended family to me, and I will always miss the love she shared with us. She never complained and stayed strong until the end of her time. She will be remembered forever.

Andrew, Velta, Eric and Ian, we will miss Hermine very much.  She was a very important aunt to our side of our family, keeping us all connected over the years. And as a great-aunt, she helped give Aldis a sense of belonging to a larger family group...he loved the bamboo forest at the bottom of her Burlington house.  I know you will grieve and feel the sadness of her absence but hold tight to the wonderful memories she gave you.

Familie Münch — with Manfred, Eva, Christian, Gerlinde, Tobias and Caroline

My memories of Hermine go way back: my sister and I were flower girls at our aunt's wedding. Creative, independent and forthright, she was always the slightly exotic, ever-interesting relative at our family gatherings, the world traveller who always kept in touch, often with hand-painted cards that were works of art. I was fortunate to visit her in Mexico, a country that had a special place in her life.

In recent years, we kept in touch through phone conversations, our topics ranging from current events to family updates. She often spoke with love and pride about her children, Velta and Andrew, and grandsons Eric and Ian.

She'll be missed.

Dear Volta and Andrew,

My sincere sympathies on the passing of Hermi.

Your Mom was my neighbour  & friend at the Riberas Condos in Chapala Mexico. Hermi was most gracious, thoughtful & easy to be with. I enjoyed our chats about everything & anything. She had a zest for life and learning. I remember her helping me to walk, even though she was much tinier than me. She was so very kind. Her presence among us is missed already…..

I appreciate that you informed me of Hermi’s passing.

Dear Velta and Andrew:

Please accept our sincerest condolences on Hermi's passing.

We feel that we have lost one of our closest friends. She has been such a good friend in Chapala, Mexico.

We bought a house in the same complex as Hermi in 2001. Since that date, 22 years ago, Hermi has been a very dear friend.

Our mental image, is of us admiring the flowers in the Chapala garden from where we could see her house.

We would wave to her on her roof as she did her yoga exercises. No wonder she lived to a wonderful age...she kept in such great shape.

Almost every day, we took an evening walk together.

Like you, we will miss her very much. Our life in Mexico will be so much less rich without our dear friend Hermi.

She will have a place in our hearts forever.

Hermie was my neighbor in the condo. She felt that we somehow had much in common, a connection of sorts.  I believe she gave me far too much credit as I have never achieved anything in life to compare with her accomplishments.  However I like to think that up until June this year I might have been able to be supportive by phone and added a little moral support during her last months. She was very proud of being still able to walk 13 times around the building in Oakville.  A truly remarkable, independent and strong  woman.  My sincere condolences to her family.  Norma Bond
