Herbie's obituary

Herbert Stanley Young

08/03/1959 - 01/05/2024

Herbert Stanley Young, affectionately known as Herbie, was a beloved member of the community who passed away on January 05, 2024, after a courageous battle with cancer. Born on August 03, 1959, in Flushing, Queens, New York, Herb was the son of the late Herbert and Dorothy Young. He resided in Stamford, Connecticut, and had a long career at the Health Food Store in Flushing, as well as at Greenwich Healthmart and Threads and Treads store in Greenwich.

Herb had a magnetic personality and enjoyed meeting new people and making friends. His perpetual smile and remarkable kindness endeared him to many, earning him the nickname "Greenwich Mayor." He developed a deep appreciation for the outdoors and became an avid hiker, often taking his friends on adventurous hikes. Herb loved sharing his knowledge of the area's history and showcasing its picturesque views, which brought him immense joy.

In addition to his passion for hiking, Herb was an enthusiastic supporter of the Minnesota Vikings. He eagerly looked forward to gathering with his extended family in Minnesota to watch the team play against their rivals, the Green Bay Packers. These trips provided an opportunity for Herb to reconnect with his nieces, nephews, and their children while proudly cheering on his beloved team.

Herb's fun-loving and approachable nature left a lasting impact on all who knew him. His warm presence will be deeply missed by those who had the privilege of sharing their lives with him. Herb is survived by his brother Christopher (Mary) Young, along with his nephews Brent Young, Larsen, WI, Corey (Michelle) Young, Waupaca, WI, Phillip Young, Appleton, WI, niece Salena (John) Norton, Richardson, TX, and his great nieces Kali and Kiera Young of Waupaca, WI.

The family would like to express their gratitude to Victor and Maude Schwartz for the exceptional care they provided to Herb during his illness and hospitalization. They would also like to thank the many friends who visited Herb daily, as their presence brought him and his family great comfort during a challenging time.

In accordance with Herb's wishes, there will be no visitation or church services. Instead, a celebration of life gathering will be held to honor Herb's memory, with further details to be announced. To commemorate Herb's life, the family kindly requests that individuals take a walk or go on a hike in nature, appreciating the beauty that surrounds them, just as Herb did throughout his life.
