Herbert Virgo fondly known as “Herb”, 68, of Hartford, Connecticut, USA, and Philadelphia, Saint Ann Parish, Jamaica passed away peacefully on January 5th, 2021.

Herb grew up in St. Ann and moved to Kingston to study diesel mechanics. He was a professional truck driver for over 20 years. For most of his adult life, he was a thrifter by trade and hobby. As a young man Herb married and migrated to the United States.

Herb’s family meant more to him than anything else in the world, something he often mentioned. He was unendingly proud of his children. He enjoyed cultivating the land and sharing his harvest with friends and family. He was a stalwart in his community and believed in the “power of the people in the community to make a change”. He believed in the importance of hard work and taught people in the community to be industrious. He was an avid learner and teacher. He shared his wit and wisdom through humor, conversation, and storytelling.

Herb is survived by his children Natalee, Qismat, Herbert, and Asata; his grandchildren Ro’Hanna and Madison; his siblings; and long-time companion. He was predeceased by his parents William (Willy) and Merdina (Lizzy), sister Clover, cherished grandparents, and uncles. Herb has also left behind a host of beloved aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, family, and friends.

Calling Hours will be held in memory of Herb on Friday, Jan 15th at 10 am EST, at All Faith Memorial Chapel on 90 John Fitch Blvd, South Windsor, CT 06074.

A celebration of Herb’s life will be held on January 14th, 2021. Please email virgofamily635@gmail.com or contact the family for more information. The burial for Herb will be held at a later date.
