June 21,1949 – January 1, 2026
Henry A. Fraction, Sr., a lifelong Chicagoan and devoted public servant, passed away on January 1, 2026, in the city where his life began.
He was born in Chicago in 1949 and dedicated more than five decades of his life to serving the youth and families of Cook County.
Henry was a proud graduate of Lindblom High School in Chicago. He continued his education at Doane College in Crete, Nebraska, where he further developed the values of discipline, service, and leadership that would guide his life’s work.
For over 50 years, Henry served as a Cook County Juvenile Probation Officer, a role he embraced not merely as a career, but as a calling. He believed deeply in accountability, fairness, and second chances, and he worked tirelessly to guide young people toward better paths.
His commitment, integrity, and steady presence left a lasting impact on colleagues, families, and countless lives throughout Cook County.
Henry was a beloved father of three and a husband. He was preceded in death by his parents, Henry and Bennie Mae Fraction, as well as his siblings Rachel Moore, Johnny Fraction and Mary Fraction-Caesar.
He is survived by his wife, Cheryl Petratos-Fraction; his children, Nichelle(Noreen), Henry A.Fraction Jr.(Joyce), and Fallon(Cheryl); his granddaughter, Makalia (Henry, Jr.), and his remaining siblings, Leon Hillary,Jr.,
Leona(Fraction)Thomas,Bernard Fraction, Albert Fraction, and Ramona Fraction.
Henry is also lovingly remembered by a large extended family of nieces, nephews, cousins, and many dear friends.
Those who knew Henry will remember him as steady, principled, and deeply committed to family and service. His legacy lives on in the lives he shaped, the family he loved, and the example he set through a lifetime of dedication.
Memorial/Celebration Of Life event will be on Sunday, June 21, 2026. Venue details will be shared at a later date.
