Henry's obituary
Henry Bradley Downs, age 85, of Murrayville, Georgia, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, September 17, 2025, at his home, surrounded by the love of his family.
Born on October 30, 1939, in Pell City, Alabama, Henry was the son of the late Henry Demose Downs and Forest Christine Bradley Downs.
Henry proudly served his country in the U.S. Army UTT Division from 1961 to 1964. He holds a distinguished place in military history as one of the first door gunners in Vietnam. During his dedicated service, Henry earned several commendations, including the Sharpshooter Ribbon, the Good Conduct Medal, and the Air Medal Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal (Vietnam).
Following his distinguished military career, Henry dedicated his professional life to aviation, retiring from Delta Air Lines as a mechanic.
Above all, Henry was known for his devoted love and faith to our Lord and Savior. This faith defined his later years as he and his beloved wife, Joy, embarked on multiple ministries, notably serving together as "Prophets of the Highway," traveling across the country spreading the word of God. Henry's life was a testament to his unwavering commitment to the Gospel and his desire to share it with everyone he met.
Henry's life was defined by the love he shared with his family. He was first married to Willa Downs, who preceded him in death, and with whom he had two sons, Matthew Downs and Michael Downs.
In 1989, he found love and a powerful spiritual partner when he married Joyce "Joy" Downs. They spent 35 years together building a family and a ministry until Joy was called home to the Lord in 2024. Through this devoted union, Henry gained five beloved stepchildren: Nancy Dean, Jack Dean Jr., Teena Warren, Beth Dean-Pope, and Daniel Dean.
Henry is survived by all seven of his children: Matthew Downs, Michael Downs, Nancy Dean, Jack Dean Jr., Teena Warren, Beth Dean-Pope, and Daniel Dean. He leaves behind a great host of beloved grandchildren and great-grandchildren who will carry on his legacy of faith.
A private Celebration of Life will be held in the spring where Henry and Joy’s ashes will be scattered together at Jacksonville Beach, Florida, a location they loved dearly.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
