Henning's obituary
Henning Brix Doest was born April 29, 1928, in Lemvig, Denmark and passed away on December 22, 2021, at the age of 93 in Anaheim, California. Henning was a kind, loving man who welcomed everyone with a gentle smile. He was always interested to hear the happenings and life events of his grandchildren and would come back with a heartfelt congratulations and encouragement.
Henning grew up in Lemvig, Denmark and at the age of 22 chose to come to America. Henning was adventurous and artistic. Though he left Denmark, he was proud of his heritage and whenever given the opportunity would share stories of life in Denmark including his time spent in the Danish Royal Guard.
Once in America, one of his adventures was serving in the US Army as an interrupter during the Korean war. Henning held various jobs and made his way to California. He settled into a love of teaching at Troy High School where he taught Ceramics, Commercial Art and finally Special Education classes for over 35 years. During that time, he was also able to continue his love for the arts. Whether through painting, playing the piano or cello, pottery, or attending concerts, Henning was fueled by his passion for the arts.
Later in life, Henning was able to write and publish a historical fiction novel loosely based on his life in Lemvig, Denmark during the Nazi occupation of WWII. Henning had incredible voice in Horseshoe Island, and it's read as if he is telling the story to you.
Henning is survived by his oldest son Jeff, Jeff's wife Nadine, and their son Cordero; along with his youngest son Erik, Erik's wife Tara, and their sons Jacob, Ethan, and Aiden.
