Helen's obituary

Helen Joan Wetzstein Moser of Bismarck, ND passed away at age 85 on Monday, October 24, 2016, at Sanford Health, Bismarck. Friends gathered to celebrate her life at DaWise-Perry Funeral Services, Mandan, ND at 2:00 PM, Wednesday, November 2, 2016. Her ashes were included in the North Dakota Veterans Cemetery, Mandan.

Helen was born March 26, 1931, in Mandan to George and Katherine (Miltenberger) Wetzstein. She was raised and educated in Mandan, graduating from St. Joseph's Elementary School and Mandan High School. She attended Mary College in Bismarck, where she earned a degree in Education. 

Helen was a passionate educator, a charismatic and thoughtful friend, and a devoted mother and grandmother. Helen was known for her charm, her positive energy, her heart of gold, and her deep faith in God. She had a strong desire to help others in her community, often finding creative ways to volunteer her time for the good of others. As part of her Christian commitment, she served many of the poor people among us at the Salvation Army Ministry in Bismarck. She taught elementary school for many years in Mandan and in South Dakota.

Helen strived to live a healthy lifestyle and to help those she loved to do the same. She was a well informed and careful thinker, often connecting with others through meaningful conversations about shared values and current events. She loved animals, nature, and all miracles of life, being well known among friends as a passionate animal defender.

She is survived by her son, Paul K. Moser (Chicago); a sister, Georgia Wetzstein Cantwell (Osage Beach, MO); and seven grandchildren, Carly Moser Schlosser (Mandan), Savannah (Phoenix), Sophia (Phoenix), and Cruise (Grand Forks, ND) Moser, Anna Moser Walsh and Laura Moser Beder (both of Chicago), and Kye A. Silbernagel (Bismarck). Helen was preceded in death by her husband Kenneth J. Moser (Mandan); her parents; and her daughter, Laura Moser Silbernagel (Mandan). Her son Carl died in Fargo on June 14, 2024. A noteworthy surviving relative is Bernadette 'Bunny' (Moser) Greig (Mandan). A special surviving friend is Karlotta Greig (Mandan).
