I wouldn’t be the artist I am today without Ms.Slater <3
Helen and I went to MOMA in NYC one summer. We had a hilarious time making fun of the really "out there" modern art pieces. There was one display that had a bunch of big cotton balls with rocks and some rusty nails through them on the floor. It was selling for thousands of dollars. Every description talked about existentialism and the juxtaposition of items in the displays. Helen was staying with me and after she left I found a rock on a piece of toilet paper on my sink. Our own private joke!!!

Read at Helen's funeral by her sister Patricia:

Today we gather to pay tribute to an amazing and fabulous person, my sister Helen Slater.

One of my favorite verses from the Bible gives me great comfort today from Jeremiah 31:12: Therefore they shall come and sing in the height of Zion......and their soul shall be as a watered garden and they shall never sorrow again. Helen's life was a fruitful, watered garden.

Helen's life was an inspiration to me. She married Athen's #1 hottie--the man of her dreams, and had 2 wonderful and amazing children. She stayed home and was a sensational mother. She was a great artist and her work inspired others. She was an astounding teacher. She truly lived her calling. She connected with her kids and helped them over her 20 years of teaching. She was loving and giving to all and accepting. She always made me feel loved and important. Helen's life was truly fruitful. I only hope that one day mine can be as successful.

Over 40 years ago, Tammy and I sobbed at her wedding. We were crying because Helen was leaving us to start her new life and we would never be the same. Today she starts her new spiritual life in heaven. She is wearing her crown of victory and we will never be the same.

Goodbye Helen until I see you one day in heaven.

This is a picture of Helen's last Thanksgiving, spent with her family. She was so happy and we all enjoyed our time together. The Holidays will never be the same without her beautiful, smiling face.

This is the family at Helen's graduation party. We are all happy and proud of Helen! Her brother, Chuck, is standing at the left. He passed away in 2010. They are now together in heaven. We are all so heartbroken at the untimely death of our "beautiful Helen". Our lives will never be the same! One day our family circle will be unbroken!"

This is Helen's big day, her graduation from Ohio University with her 4 year degree in Teaching. She and the entire family were so happy and proud of her. It was quite a feat, taking care of her family, working full time and going to school. Afterwards we had a large party with all of the family.

Helen is with Meghan at her High School graduation. She was also very proud of her, as was all of the family. Afterward there was a great party. Helen loved being a wife and mother. I believe that the many years between Matt and Meghan's birth and their graduation from high school, were when she was her happiest. She missed them when they left home.

Helen and Dave were in the hospital after Meghan was born. Matt was then a toddler. They were so happy, with their "perfect little family". Helen was such a wonderful and loving wife and mother. These were her happiest years!

Matthew was born on this date. Helen and Dave were so happy and excited!
I had Miss Slater's class two years in a row. Through her teaching you could tell she genuinely cared about the students as well as their experience in her class more than anything. Her class was always a safe and upbeat environment that I looked forward to being a part of every day. Her presence at Groveport will be greatly missed.

I’m Meghan’s friend from high school where we first met in marching band. I spent many weekends at Helen’s house making collages and goofing around with Meggie. I struggle to find the words to say how heartbreaking Helen’s passing is. She was the kindest, warmest person who I know touched many others in the same way. She was always so supportive of mine and Meggie’s antics, and so quick to laugh. I wish I could have been at the funeral to gather over memories her life. Though it’s been some years since I’ve seen Helen, I’ll always remember her sweet soul and be grateful for the time I had with her. Sending all of my love.
