Helen's obituary

Affectionally known as Boobba & Mama Helen, Helen Ruth House, a beloved mother, grandmother and tall figure in her family and community, was born on August 8, 1936, in Laurel, Mississippi. She quickly became the heart of her parents Savannah and George Hudgies, who affectionately called her "Boobba," a nickname that would stay with Helen for the rest of her life.

Helen attended historic Oak Park High School and later became a dedicated member of St. Elmo Missionary Baptist Church. In 1955, she married Harvey Lee House (1933-1996), a graduate of Oak Park High School and member of the United States Armed Forces. Together, they raised six children: Barbara House Jordan, Belinda House, Angela House, Jaqueline House, Lahoma House Campbell and their only son, Tracy House. After the birth of her first grandchildren, a set of twins, she asked to be called "Mama Helen," a name that quicky became cherished by everyone.

Mama Helen is preceded in death by her parents Savannah and Geroge Hudgies; Joe Hudgies (brother), Minne Lee Parker (sister), Bernice Greene (aunt) and three daughters Barbara House Jordan (Calvin), Belinda House, and Angela House.

Helen is survived by her daughters Jacqueline House and Lahoma House Campbell (Brad), her son Tracy House (special friend Felecia Clanton) and her beloved grandchildren: Jeremy House, Jermaine House, Jason House, Jasalyn House, J’averyion House, Jadalyn House, Brianna House, Shannon Cooley, Kenneth Kaleel Ulmer, Sayuri Barnes, Tracye "Lil Tracy" House, Payton Walton, Austin Knight, Allison Knight, and Axel Green. She also leaves behind great-grandchildren Alaina House, Jason A. House Jr., and Malia House, who brought her great joy. She leaves to cherish her nephews Charles Earl Parker and Jody Parker and cousins Ronald Greene, William Greene, Stanley Greene and Latisha Biggs.

Mama Helen passed away peacefully on October 29, 2024, at the age of 88, surrounded by family after a brief battle with cancer. Her spirit lives on in the love she shared and the many lives she touched.

Helen was not only mother and grandmother, she was also the anchor of her family, holding each member close and keeping everyone together. She took pride in family milestones especially the successes of her grandchildren. Helen may no longer be with us, but her spirit endures in the love she shared and the many lives she touched. Her family and friends, each richer for having known her, will carry her memory forward, honoring her life by embodying the values she held dear.
