Betty's obituary
On the morning of June 21, 2022, Elizabeth “Betty” Ewerts of Clearwater, Florida died at the age of 84. Betty was born to Kenneth and Alma Hanson in Leesburg, Florida on November 11, 1937. She grew up in Fruitland Park, FL playing with lifelong neighborhood friends who became known as The Camphor Tree Gang. The group later in life took yearly vacations together. Betty graduated from Leesburg High School, was a debutant, and then attended Florida Southern College in Lakeland, Florida where received her bachelor’s degree in Home Economics. Betty went on to earn a master’s degree in Education from Florida State University and was an avid supporter of FSU football. She spent her career teaching adult education for the Pinellas County school system mainly in congregate living facilities and the Lighthouse for the Blind.
It was at Florida Southern College where she met and fell in love with her husband of 64 years, Karl Fredrick Hallett Ewerts. They were married at the Church of the Ascension in Clearwater, Florida on May 3, 1958. Together they raised two children, Eric, and Kristin. The family was always at the forefront of Betty’s time and affection where she played an active role in the lives of her children and grandchildren, Jason, Adam, and Erica. She found great joy in seeing her great-grandchildren Riley, Kennedy, Cole, and Gunner.
Betty had many interests and hobbies. Along with cooking and sewing, she enjoyed camping, traveling, and making crafts. She made beautiful, cherished gifts of paintings, quilts, stained glass, and pottery. She also used her flower arranging talents to volunteer in the altar guild of her church. She leaves behind a beautiful legacy of loving and caring that will be carried on and remembered in the hearts and minds of all those who knew her.
