Helen's obituary
Helen Marie Allen, a beloved matriarch, passed away peacefully on January 15, 2024, surrounded by her loving family. Born on May 15, 1924, Helen lived a life filled with warmth, love, and countless cherished moments that will forever be etched in the hearts of those who were fortunate enough to know her.
Helen was a woman of remarkable strength, resilience, and kindness. The only daughter of Lillie Logan and Isaac Wright. She was born and raised in North Little Rock, Arkansas. Helen attended school in North Little Rock, graduating from Jones High School in 1942. After graduating, her father who worked for the Missouri Pacific Railroad as a Blacksmith was relocated to St. Louis, Missouri where Helen began attending Stowe Teachers College (Harris-Stowe State University) where she received her Associate Degree. Grieving the loss of her mother at 19, Helen decided to continue her education in Detroit, Michigan. Staying with family, she completed nursing school and built a career in the healthcare industry. In 1948, Helen married Jefferson Nicholson and out of that union came two children, Michael and Jeffra.
Helen had a passion for traveling, good food, movies, reading and engaging in soulful conversation, she found joy in simple pleasures. Her zest for life, combined with her nurturing spirit, and sense of humor, created a positive impact on everyone she encountered. Once retired, Helen was actively involved in the Eta Phi Beta Sorority, where their motto, “not for ourselves”, epitomized her core beliefs. Helen also worked for the Oak Park Senior Center as a Senior Advocate well into her nineties.
Helen Marie Allen is survived by her children, Jeffra Ann Nicholson, Michael Edwin Nicholson, granddaughter, Michelle Kais and great granddaughter, Salma Kais. They will continue to carry her legacy of perseverance forward. She is reunited in eternal peace with her beloved husband, Jacob Virgil Allen.
Helen's memory will forever be cherished, and her legacy of love and compassion will continue to inspire those who had the privilege of knowing her. May she rest in eternal peace.
