Hector's obituary

After an eight-month courageous fight against cancer, Hector Dario Ruiz, beloved son, brother, husband and father, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on Saturday, August 7th, 2021 at the age of 55. Hector is survived by his parents, Dario De Jesus Ruiz and Martha Nelly Ruiz Arenas; his wife, Ana Ruiz Da Silva; and his daughters, Gabriela Maria Ruiz, Marcela Maria Ruiz, Daniela Maria Ruiz and Sophia Andrea Pino. He is predeceased by Gloria Aleida Ruiz, his younger sister.

Hector was born on September 18, 1965 in Medellin, Colombia. He spent his adolescent years there until immigrating to the United States at the age of 15, where he attended White Plains High School for two years. Once graduated from White Plains High School, Hector went to community college for two years before setting off to St. Louis, Missouri, where he attended Saint Louis University and obtained his Bachelor of Science in Aeronautical Administration in 1988. Since attending the university, he completed a Global Professional Leadership Program from The Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania.

After his college graduation, Hector began his career at American Airlines, embarking on a 15-year journey. He started out as a sales representative and worked his way to the top, working as a International Human Resources representative, Country Manager of Sales and Operations, and ending his time at American as District Sales Manager of Corporate Sales. In 2004, Hector took a position as Regional Manager at Qantas Airlines. After 8 years at Qantas, Hector earned the job of his dreams as General Manager of Latin Specialty Sales at Delta Air Lines, where he worked for the past 9 years.

Hector was a strong, kind, loving, supportive and passionate man who always knew what he wanted out of life. He was committed to Delta; walked the walk and talked the talk. His passion for the job and all the hard-work he put into his career to become as successful as he was is inspiring. He loved meeting new people, making connections with others everywhere he went. Hector also had an art for cooking and hosting. He showed his love through his delicious food and overwhelming desire to serve others. But there was nothing he loved more than his family. After the passing of his sister in 2018, he moved his family, including his parents, to Georgia to live a beautiful life in the suburbs of Tyrone. He took legal guardianship of his niece, Sophia, who he always considered a fourth daughter, and helped raise her. Hector was also devoted to his wife, Ana, sharing countless memories traveling the world and building a life together. During his last few weeks on Earth, in a room full of family to choose from, he always called out for Ana. Most notably, if there is anything Hector should be remembered for, it’s his unrelenting love for his daughters. His commitment as a father was unmatched. There was no soccer tournament, no basketball game, no swim meet, no cheerleading competition, no choir recital, no fundraiser, no PTA meeting and no graduation that was left unattended by Hector. His love, dedication, loyalty and devotion to his family alone says more about him than anything ever could.

We mourn the loss of Hector with each passing day and encourage any and all who knew him to remember all the beauty and good he brought to this world.
