I met Heather for the first time at CEF day camp this summer, I was teaching the Bible
Lesson and she was there for prayer support and for praying with kids who wanted to accept Jesus, we had some off moments to share our stories with each other. We found out we were both adoptive moms, we got to share some amazing things that God has done in our lives through adoption, then she shared how excited she was that her son had graduated and was goin g to OSU , several times she shared that she was so proud of the man he turned out to be, she was excited to help him move in and get his room ready. She also said how proud she was of both of her kids that they were following the Lord and were serving at camp! I got to see them serving and I was impressed too as I had two grandchildren who were at camp and loved the teen staff that was there!
Heather later shared with my daughter at the CEF picnic that she could see leadership in my daughter Jenna, and encouraged her to be my aide teaching CEF in Monroe This year and my daughter is doing it! I did not know Heather was struggling with an illness, she just said that she had a few health issues; I did not know that Heather passed away until Cathy Phelps told
Me at a thank you lunch for Robyn. I was so sad and shocked that God had put her in my life for such a short time, but we got to pray together and encourage each other during that special week of serving together! What a gift!
I will continue to pray for you in this time of immense loss❤️she sure loved the Lord and her amazing family!
When Graduating, I recieved hundreds of Grad cards written from so many different people, and for a lack of space only kept 5 of them. Despite not knowing Heather for very long, the Leonard family Graduation card was one that I kept. The way that Heather was able to make me feel so loved and appreciated and also give me such great faith related advice in only a short amount of words was truly something special. I will hold on to this card forever. ❤️
There are no words sufficient enough for all of the emotions and memories that flood through me in waves… It is such a blessing and treasure to have been loved by Heather. Our lives are forever changed for the better because of her faithfulness to the Lord, impact in our community, and love for each of us so intimately. She was a true Ambassador for Christ, His hands and feet on this earth. God added so much life, beauty, and compassion to this world through Heather. I will miss her being a mentor and another mother to my girls. I will miss her sweet friendship, encouragement, smile, hugs, laughter, wisdom, tea parties, doctor knowledge, bags of hand-me-downs, Bible studies, themed birthday parties, and prayers. I believe she is cheering and flipping all over Heaven, content at the feet of Jesus, getting all of her questions answered and the Biblical Timeline filled in, and happy to reunite with her Momma and so many that have gone before her. “It is well with my soul”… only because of His promises, and I know my Sister in Christ is fully healed and waiting for us in the sweet by and by. My heart breaks for her husband and children, family members, dear friends, and the absence of her light and presence in our little community. She lives on in each of us and we can find hope found only in our Savior, Jesus Christ. If you don’t know who He is, Heather would have made sure you did! Jesus is the best gift you will ever receive and if you have any questions about our Jesus, I will do my very best to answer what I can and show you in His Word how you too can have true peace found only in Him. I am so blessed to have I met Heather and her beautiful daughter, Sara, in August of 2014 at the Philomath Elementary Open House in Mrs. Hall’s classroom. She shared an invitation with the Gospel message and some Wordless Book colored jelly beans, and then invited us into Good News Club, her church, her home, and her heart. God is good, all the time! 💜Love in Christ, Amanda xo

Medical School Graduation from The University of Iowa
I first met Heather in 1998 as we both entered medical school at The University of Iowa. As a native Iowan and local, I offered her a ride for a school related off-campus event. One of the first things she asked me was, “Where do you go to church?” And so our friendship began. That faith-based connection opened the door to a faithful friendship over these past 26 years. God is so good, and He knew just what He was doing. We were in Bible studies together throughout medical school, joined CMDA, went on some really fun trips (Chicago & even Florida), and also studied together…A LOT! She really was the most organized student I’ve ever seen!!!  We even celebrated her engagement and then marriage to Jason during those years. So many sweet memories of a very kind, thoughtful and sweet friend. As hard as the news is to hear, we were praying for an amazing breakthrough for Heather and her health. This time I trust that her breakthrough is being in the presence of the Lord now. I will continue to pray for her family, and all those who have been deeply touched by her life, her faith in Jesus, and her friendship… People like me who will miss her dearly.

I had made a huge move from CA and started attending Living Faith Community Church. I jumped into the Women’s Bible studies and the retreat. One of the Bible studies was at Heather’s house and she was such a friendly, warm, loving, and inviting lady, I felt like I was at home with family! Heather apologized to everyone that her cat was in the middle of the group but we all loved it. We shared our hearts and humor and I thank God she was in my life for the few years I got to know her. God Bless!

Heather was such a blessing to others! When our second was born she brought us dinner that happened to fall on St. Patrick’s day. Of course she went all out with a fully themed dinner, dessert, coloring pages for our toddler as well as a video link she texted be before dinner to share with Jordan. I have and will continue to look up to her as such an amazing example of a mother. ❤️

So many great memories

Our family  was deeply saddened to hear about the passing of Heather.  Heather radiated Gods love and her smile lit up a room.  We loved seeing her cheer for the kids during XC and track . Please accept our heartfelt condolences during this difficult time. Our thoughts are with you and your family as you navigate through this period of grief. May Gods love strengthen and encircle you with peace.  Families are forever ❤️

With sympathy, Marty Hernandez and family
