Hazel Rose McCleon, June 21, 1934 - May 29, 2025 Hazel Rose McCleon, born to Gertie Legett Foster and Rosevelt Foster in Dallas, Texas, left an indelible mark on everyone she met. After completing her education at Lincoln High School in Dallas, Hazel moved to Los Angeles, California, where she dedicated her career to serving others as a compassionate social worker at McLaren Hall. Her love for family was palpable, and she served as the heart of numerous family gatherings, where she meticulously captured memories through countless photographs. Hazel was a steadfast source of support and affection for her family, embracing her role as a nurturing figure in their lives. A woman of diverse interests, Hazel not only enjoyed bowling and golfing but also loved to travel and engage in games like Pokeno and Spades. She was a proud sister to six brothers—Jeesie Lee, Raymond, Rosevelt, Moses, Larry, and Bobby—and three sisters—Cornell Beamon, Margret Lewis, and Jearline Frank Foster. Hazel’s legacy of love shines brightly through her children, Glenda Joyce, Gail Demetria, and Felicia Ann, each a treasure in her life. Furthermore, she nurtured many young ones as if they were her own grandchildren, who affectionately called her "Erntie." Among them are Latoice McKinney, Detovia Smith, Darrell Foster (Tammy), Claude Cruze (Shavonda), Tyrone Douglas, Wayne McKinney, Jerry Monaque, Davion Carter, Dishay Harris, Damien Smith (Anicia), Christopher Steen, Devonte Smith, Shanci Steen, Daja Smith, and Jonnae Spigner, along with numerous great-grandchildren who will fondly remember her. Hazel cherished a special friendship with her namesake, Hazel Dymally, which brought joy and laughter to her life. She leaves behind a remarkable legacy, enriched by her many nieces and nephews, along with a wealth of friends and family members who will forever carry her spirit. The love and warmth that Hazel imparted will be a lasting memory in the hearts of all who knew her.
